The Two Lands of Egypt
Lower Egypt is located by the Mediterranean Sea and in ancient times was quite marshy, this is where the Papyrus reeds use to grow in the marshlands and represented Lower Egypt.
Lower Egypt prior to 3100 B.C. was governed by a family who demonstrated their authority over the land of Lower Egypt by wearing a red Crown. Lower Egypt’s ancient capital was Buto, home of the serpent goddess Wadjet,
Upper Egypt in contrast was very different; it had a long Nile valley fed by three rivers, the Blue Nile, White Nile and the Atbara. The Nile is the longest river in the World; from East Africa to the Mediterranean it is approximately 6741 Km, with 1000 Km approximately flowing through Egypt. Upper Egypt was very dry and is located in the dessert area of Egypt. The family, which ruled this part of Egypt, wore a white crown to demonstrate their authority over the land, prior to Narmers unification in 3100 B.C. The ancient capital of Upper Egypt is located at Hierakonplois, the home of the vulture goddess Nekhebet.
