Announced by UNESCO in 1999, International Mother Language Day celebrates cultural diversity and commemorates the “language martyr” students of 1952 Bangladesh.Ekushey February is a glorious day of the people of Bangladesh. It is also known as Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day. The language of the Bengali people is marked as a day of painful and glorious memorization. On the occasion of this Day, I launch an appeal for the potential of multilingual education to be acknowledged everywhere, in education and administrative systems.Languages, with their complex implications for identity, communication, social integration, education and development, are of strategic importance for people and planet.
