The glorious Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, led by "The Father of the Nation", Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was the final chapter in our struggle for independence. To encapsulate the military heritage of our Liberation War, an Army Museum' was established at the entrance of Mirpur Cantonment at Dhaka in March 1987, and was inaugurated on 26 November 1987. Between September 1997 and March 1999, the 'Army Museum' was shifted to its present location at Bijoy Sarani and was renamed as 'Bangladesh Military Museum' under the patronization of former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, Bir Bikram, ndc, psc, C. The museum was housed in a two-storied building. On 11 January 2010, Armed Forces Division formed a Board of Officers to renovate and modernize the museum with the Chief of General Staff of the Bangladesh Army as its chairman with members from three services. This Board of Officers proposed for a world-class museum and to name it 'Bangabandhu Military Museum'.
