Western Civilization in the Rilics of Shilla Dynasty

in history •  7 years ago

There are several stories about that Shilla had had a contact with western civilization.

In the museum, I could find out some relics which could be witnesses about the acceptance of western civilization in Shilla dynasty.

It is interesting to find the statue which can be thought as the western appearance.

The western features in the statue were mainly having the appearance of warrior.

May be at the age of Shilla dynasty, the westerns who had visited Shilla seemed to be very brave and strong people.

It is believed that the western people who had visited Shilla Dynasty was Persian.

Do you imagine that Persians had crossed the sea and arrived at Shilla more than 2 thousands years ago. It is unbelievable they had sailed from Persia to Shilla.

Excluding Persia, Shilla had had a close contact with India and Vetnam.
When we thought the location of Shilla was located in the far end of Korean peninsular, the fact that Shilla had had an active contact with Pesia was a kinds of enigma.

In the history book, I couldn’t read that Back Jae and Goguyeo had a close contact with the western civilization like Shilla.

We should confirm that Persian at that time was not a Muslim State. As you know, Persia was a very civilized country at that time.

The relics which were believed to be influenced from Persia were as below.

The lion statue was as same as that of Persian.

P2040277.JPG

In some point of view, the lion statue seemed to be influence by Greek civilization.

P2040280.JPG

P2040281.JPG

Actually there were no lions in Korean peninsular.
Koreans at that time hardly could watch a lion.
How they made the statue what they couldn’t watch.

Other figure statue also seemed a western people.
The hair and face are as same as the western people.

The culture and civilization have developed through the exchange.
It is still unknown how Shilla could have an active contact with western civilization.
But one thing obvious was this active contact with other civilization was a source of the power of Shilla dynasty.

In geopolitica perspective, Shilla was the most disadvantageous country among 3 countries.
In my opinion, Shilla had overcome the disadvantage with the active acceptance of foreign civilizations.

Isn't it amazing you could find this kind of western style relics in the far east.
There were more active contact in ancient world than we thought.

I hope to find out more evidences of the contact with the western civilization during my trip in Gyeongju.

Hello @Slowwalker.

I am into history myself, but in my case my studies for the most have been the Norwegian and European timeline.
Have been touching Japanese and China, but I must say that Korean history are quiet new to me.
So maybe I will have to look at it a bit more.
I guess they must have an interesting story to tell since they have been more or less surrounded by a lot of the superpowers from the ancient time.
How do you become to know so much about it? Are you from Korea?

Kindest regards
@Gyldenhorn

Yes, I am Korean.
Korean culture was a source of Japanese culture in ancient time.
Especially Baek Jae Dynasty was the beginning of King family in Japan.

I did not know that.
Have starting to do some research around it now
Thank you for the tip.

I never had time to go to museums but due to your posts I am learning a lot about history, thanks for sharing!

Yes, those lions definitely look multicultural - looking distinctly Chinese (thinking of the lions I've seen outside of Chinese restaurant), yet not too Chinese... I do like them. I'd love to visit Korea some day - I have several friends over there though I have lost track of the school friend I had.
Thanks again for sharing.

It's amazing how people can still come and get contact with each other even in the ancient times. This strongly proves how people want to communicate and want to get in contact with other communities which we still do until today. The lion relics are astonishing to watch

Hey there! Great article! How is it that you know so much about archeology?! When I was living in Mexico we saw a lot of museums with relics from the Mayan & Aztecs culture! It is so interessting to see them and also to see how much information they still transmit. I already have seen the ones there and in Peru (Incas), but never had the chance to get to Asia! I heard that it is also pretty similar though! So interesting to see that back then the world already seemed to be connected somehow - Thanks for stopping by my blog by the way! I appreciate that.

It is believed that civilization of central Asia have a strong connection with that of Maya, Aztec and Incas.

That's an amazing piece of information dear @slowwalker,

Now i understand that why your teacher said that you are good in history,

These relics are totally awesome specially the lion statue and you took amazing shots of that.

Keep it up dear 😇

Thank you so much

I really liked your post

I am amazed how much detail has been preserved from something this old! What a greatly written story @slowwalker

Thank you for reading

We people think the world is small now due to technology.

But seems like our ancestors didn’t give a shit about it. They just went places to do their thing.

Good post slowwalker 😉

좋은글 잘 읽고 있습니다

that historical review so interesting, a civilized Persian Muslim country, and the statues that resemble, excellent learning, that the monuments are so bright, thanks for sharing,

In my opinion it must be the contact of civilization from India and of course there is the influence of western culture especially persia and roman, perhaps at the time of the first shilla dynasty became the trade route to other east asia countries ...Very great post @slowwalker

Thank you for comment and your opinion

Me also like Gyeongju. Last year i visited. Really its a historycal place.

Did you have a nice time ?

Yes i had

Thank you for another great story of Shilla dynasty @slowwalker. I also didn't know, that Persia and the Shilla dynasty already had relations to each other. I am personally very impressed of the Persian history and when I visited Iran, I also made a visit to Persepolis which is even a bit older than the Shilla dynasty. I think i will write a blog post about it soon...;-)

It seemed that they had a contact, even though their was no of obvious poof of document.

FANTASTIC.. THAT'S THE KIND OF POST WE WOULD LIKE TO TREND.. ;) KEEP IT UP BRO, NICE POST.

Evidences... Like... U need to go back to the time of persian civilization 😝😝😝

Umm if I can

dont say in that tone.... “First time” im cryin💀

Thanks for the information, I think I need one kind of this statute in my living room :) ^^ they look a bit like from china

In fact I dont know at all about the history of shilla and western influenced in its culture. I just found out after reading your post. I will find out as soon as possible the truth from the history of shilla. thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your interest

Always incredible your publications, you always have something good, wonderful and new to post.

Please check my profile, and vote for my last post. Thank you

Wow is amazing I like your post

It is likely that this was communication with Persia. In those times the Persians were in my opinion everywhere. This is a highly civilized country at the time, which had quite extensive ties. In any case, the figure of a lion and a European man are very similar to the cultural imprint of Persia.

Thank you for comment

Wow incredible the Shilla Dynasty, I love it, without a doubt, it is a very interesting and very good quality post ... hopefully and someday have the privilege of visiting a museum of these ... they must be beautiful and see some of those mythical statues of warriors .... excellent post, your publication of another level good work

Thank you so much

Thats some great history there, thanks for sharing

Buen post, muy buenas las fotos. Gracias por compartir.

an amazing post + very informative stuff like your post and the place is amazing

Am amazed on the work of arts of the shilla dynasty which looks great till date. Thanks for sharing these beautiful work of arts with us

Thank you for comment

La historia es realmente sorprendente, y bueno la conservación de ella todo un reto, que genial que puedas apreciar de cerca estas esculturas, saludos

Awesome read. I'm so intrigued by ancient history in general.... Doesn't it seem like we're devolving almost?

It makes one ponder whether or not society is indeed regressing, art like this that has without centuries and today most things are not built to last a decade.

Sounds like an epic voyage sailing from Persia to Shilla! To me, the lion statue seems to have some mixed features of the East and the West.

Yes, I agree with you

A great historical puzzle ..
I am also very curious what and with which western country where Shilla is in a relationship, to produce a lion statue .. I will wait for further news from you my best friend.@slowwalker

Thank you silvia

Another interesting history about Shilla dynasty. Always enjoy your posts!

I like to read every post you...Upvote and follow you!

We learned a lot about the Shila Dynasty through your post. And I want to collect some pictures from here.

with pleasure

There are so many stories about history that people are not aware of, like many countries that keep ancient history only what percent (%) can be studied about its existence.

I think people will open their insights after reading the posts in your post brother @slowwalker

From the evidence of the historic heritage it indicates there is contact with westerners. It may sound like a stronger proof of this history. Thank you for sharing a post about history I have never met before. Good luck always for you @slowwalker.

Hello Friend @slowwalker ! You have very deep knowledge of history! I'm curious about reading your articles! This lion is special! And here is the lion of my city :)

wow, thank for sharing... it's extraordinary... good job my friend!

Amazing statue of the lion and wonderful “figure statue seemed a western people”.

Interesting history! You are good at analysis indeed. ;)

Magnificent article. I really liked it. And what about what the authors could create in a fictional image that they could see in a dream?

Великолепная статья. Мне очень понравилось. А как насчет того, что авторы могли сотворить по вымышленному образу, который они могли видеть во сне?

Thanks for the very informative posts. One never knows exactly what happened in the past but East and West have obviously been more connected than we sometimes think.

Nice post

it really nice information

Nice post i enjoy it by reading.
