The Assam Rifles allegedly murdered 10 people in Malom area for spreading the fury. By making these issues an issue, Sharmila started seeking removal of the Special Arms Act of India (AFSPA) from the state. This special law is applicable in most parts of northeastern India and Kashmir. Under this, the people of the army can enter the house of anyone, without any papers, can search, but they also have the right to shoot anyone at the spot.

Manipur's Iron Lady Sharmila, who considered it an open violation of human rights, has stopped eating food since 2000. For so many years, they have been being fed forcibly with nose.

Suicide is considered to be a crime in India, and for this reason, they also got a lawsuit in this case. But the sessions court of Manipur rejected the case. He has been in jail for the past several years. Whenever he is released, he is arrested again in a few days for trying to commit suicide.

Due to not taking the usual diet for so many years now, his body is still not accepting it. Sharmila's family members say that despite being released from the charges of suicide and being released, she may have to keep her in the hospital in view of her health. The issue of misuse of AFSPA law is still not settled.
