Hello steemians, how are you all doing? Hope you are doing great :)
Today I'm going to write about the precious diamond that can never be replaced by anything- 'the kohinoor'
First of all 'koh-i-noor' is a persian word and it means 'Mountain of Light'. Well really the fascinating appearance of this beautiful stone can be compare to what it means. It was originally large enough. History says that it was from the era of Qutub Shahi Kings of Golconda in Telangana, India. It might possibly discovered in the 13th century from the Kollur mine, Andhra Pradesh, india.
The diamond originally weighed 793 carats almost about 158.6 gram and it was uncut though the early report says that the well attested weight is 186 carat almost equal to 37.2 gram.It was originally owned by The Qutub Shahis. In 1849 by the end of the 'Sikh Empire' it was moved to the hands of Queen Victoria.
Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria found it unworthy due to it's dull shape and irregular appearance. He ordered to cut the diamond by coster diamond.Well that's how the 'kohinoor' was reduced from 793 carats to 186 carats. But the irony is that the 'kohinoor' is signifies as a badluck to any men of Royal British Family who wore it.No further explanation was made about this.Yet arriving to the British Country it was worn only by the female members of the British Royal Family.
Today the 'kohinoor' is attached in the front of Queen Mother's Crown which is a part of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom.Millions of visitors came to see the 'kohinoor' to the Tower of London and get mesmerized by the charm of it's beauty .
India demanded the Kohinoor back again as according to them(us) it was illigally enforced by the British Govt and being cheatedly taken to London. To many extent it is not an avoiding statement.
Well but not only India claimed the ownership of Kohinoor, Pakistan and Afghanistan claimed it too.But no one is giving a damn to this.
Now why it has been an issue between India and UK?Let's check it too.
We have to go to past to check this out. After while in India many emperor owned the kohinoor for a temporary rural years. Finally it was on the hands of Shah Shujah Durrani, Emir of Afghanistan. But when he came to know a possible invasion by Russia against Afghanistan, he allianced with United Kingdom aimed to get helped to defend. But he was thrown away quckly.Whatsoever he was able to survive to save the kohinoor and headed to Lahore to seek help from Sikh Empire, Maharaja Ranjit Shah.He willingly gave the 'kohinoor' to Maharja Ranjit Shah in return of his hospitality.
The Maharaja willed the 'Kohinoor' to the Hindu temple of Jagannath in Puri. However after his death in 1839 the British Administrator didnot execute his will.In 1849 after the second Anglo-Shikh war the kingdom Punjab was attached to British India and the 'Last Treaty of Lahore' was signed and with this the kohinoor was officially shifted to UK.
