in history •  7 years ago

Today I will briefly mantion about an utopic country named as Cockaigne in Europen culture , there is one specific thing about this imaginary land and it was full of abundance

Especially in middle age European culture , everyone was beleiving that there is a land called Cockaigne which their citizens living in abundance and luxury.
According to legends, there were wine rivers, houses made from pastry, streets furnished with pastries in the cockaigne. Grilled women were inviting the men to come and eat them and food was raining above the sky.

There are a lot of rumours about the etimology of the word Cockaigne , however most of its meaning comes something close to country of the pastry. Also there is an old irish version of the story and the jini of greed was ruling a king and the king gets cured by seeing the vision of Cockaigne. It is a 13th century french fable and the reason why it is written is mostly to mock with The legendary blessed island Avalon

The British poem "the land of cockaygne" which is written in 16th century , it describes the life in monastry and in 17th century instead of the word cockaygne Lubberland started to get used.

In one of fairy-tales, the hell looked exactly like that. Except, you could eat as much food as you wanted and you never stopped to feel hungry. I believe it was Garfield!

I wouldn't like to be in this land, really. Success requires some effort. Giving the effort away would make us not value the success. Being in such a land - it would not prosper for long.

This is exactly right! This is why i love steemit, what I think seems to just jump out off the screen and into my life, thank you for such beautiful words!
