Hello Steemians!

Welcome to today's episode of the "Today in History" serial, where I bring you daily historical facts and events of the current date.

Today another episode about a musician, Andrés Segovia, who was born on February 21. 1893. in the town Linares in Spain.

He spent most of his childhood living with his uncle Eduardo, who also introduced him to music, arranging violin lessons for the young Segovia.
The violin lessons were more or less a failed attempt, but Segovia found himself playing classical guitar in which he was mostly self taught.

Andrés had his first live performance at the age of 16, in Granada, 1909.
In the coming 10 years he has successfully performed multiple concerts, in Madrid, Paris, Barcelona and made a successful tour in South America.

After World War II, he started having more regular tours across Europe and America and kept touring for about thirty years.
In 1958. Segovia won the Grammy Award for the Best Classical Performance, Insturmentalist for his recording Segovia Golden Jubilee.

Throughout his career he won many awards and was even ennobled by King Juan Carlos I, in 1981.
Segovia had many students whom later became famous guitarists themselves, some of which are Julian Bream, Charlie Byrd, Philip de Fremery,,,,
He kept performing into his old age leaving behind many recordings and countless live performances.
Two films about his life, one while he was 75 and the other when he was 84 years old.

He died of a heart attack on June 2. 1987. at the age of 94 and was buried at Casa Museo de Linares in Andalusia.
