Hello Steemians!
Welcome to today's episode of the "Today in History" serial, where I bring you daily historical facts and events of the current date.
On December 21, 1945, George Smith Patton Jr. has died.
George S. Patton was a general of the United States Army, he was born in November 1885. in a familliy with military background.
He is best remembered for his leadership in France and Germany after the Allied forces have landed in Normandy in 1944.
His speeches have been remembered and have been quoted many times throughout the world.
For example:
Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory.
There is no proof nor yet any denial. We were, We are, and we will be.
Just 4 months after the end of the WWII, Patton died at the age of 60, on December 21, 1945, due to car accident injuries which occurred just a few days earlier, while joining Major General Hobart Gay's hunting trip.
