Hello Steemians!

Welcome to today's episode of the "Today in History" serial, where I bring you daily historical facts and events of the current date.

On December 28, 1856, Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the U.S.A. was born in Staunton Virgina.

Woodrow earned his PhD in political science at John Hopkins University and worked as a teacher at different institutions.

In 1902, he got elected as President of Princeton University, in which position he remained until 1910, when he was elected the 34th Governor of New Jersey.

In 1912 he got elected 28th President of the U.S.A., the first Southerner since Zachary Taylor in 1848.

He reintroduced the State of the Union and pushed policies like The Federal Reserve Act and the Federal Trade Commission Act.

After getting elected for the 2nd time in 1916, Wilson asked the Congress to join the World War I, in order to make "the world safe for democracy", so the U.S.A. begun fighting alongside the Allies.

He relied on General John Joseph Pershing to run the military strategies, while Wilson himself focused on the financial and diplomatic side.

Wilson was loaning billions of dollars to Britain and France, rising taxes in the U.S.A. and borrowing large sums through sellin of Liberty Bonds.

In 1919, Wilson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize as a recognition for his sponsorship of the League of Nations.

He died 5 years later, on February 3, 1924, in Washington, D.C.

One year after his death, the U.S. Postal Office issued postage stamps honoring Wilson.

Fun fact for the end, the largest bill ever printed, a $100,000 bill, a bill that was for use only among Federal Reserve Banks, has Wilson's portrait.
