The death of the Dutch Pride General at the Hand of Snipers Laskar Aceh (ENG-INA)

A surprising event took place after the Dutch mastered the mosque of Acehnese pride of the Baiturrahman Mosque Banda Aceh on April 14, 1873. To mark the death of Kohler, on August 14, 1988, under Governor Ibrahim Hasan made a memorial warning where the general breathed his last breath under a tree kelumpang (Sterculia foetida) in front of the Baiturrahman Great Mosque Banda Aceh.

Peristiwa mengejutkan terjadi setelah Belanda sukses menguasai Mesjid kebanggaan masyarakat Aceh yaitu Mesjid Raya Baiturrahman Banda Aceh pada tanggal 14 April 1873. Kematian Kohler (jendral pemimpin penyerbuan Belanda terhadap Aceh) sontak saja membuat semua orang waktu terkejut. Padahal hari itu adalah hari ke 9 keberadaan sang jendral menginjakkan kakinya di bumi Aceh.

Peristiwa ini terjadi saat situasi sedang lengang, sang jendral hendak beristirahat sejenak di bawah sebuah pohon di sekitar masjid raya, dari arah depan sosok sniper telah memantaunya sejak lama dibalik rerentuhan Mesjid dari jarak kurang lebih 100 meter tiba-tiba saja melepaskan peluru pas mengenai bagian kepalanya. Sontak saja seluruh batalion dibuat gaduh atas kematian sang jendral.

Seketika itu juga sang sniper pun diburu oleh tentara Belanda dan lansung memberondongnya ditempat. Ternyata sang sniper penembak Kohler adalah seorang pemuda Laskar Aceh berusia 19 tahun saat itu. Sumber lain mengatakan, penembakan Kohler bukan mengenai pada bagian kepalanya, namun mengenai bagian dada.

Setelah kematian kohlor rupanya jasadnya tidak dikuburkan di Aceh, melainkan dibawa ke Batavia (Jakarta hari ini) melalui pelabuhan Ulee Lhue dan dikuburkan di daerah Tanah Abang. Kini kuburan Kohler telah ikut tergusur setelah pemerintahan DKI Jakarta merencanakan pengembangan Kota.

Untuk menandai adanya peristiwa tewasnya Kohler, maka pada tanggal 14 Agustus 1988, dibawah Gubernur Ibrahim Hasan membuat sebuah menumen peringatan tepat dimana sang jendral menghembuskan nafas terakhir yaitu dibawah pohon kelumpang (Sterculia foetida) yang berada di depan Masjid Raya Baiturrahman Banda Aceh.
