"Gold" made in Germany - survived two world wars!

in history •  7 years ago

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on one of theses magnificent coins. Take a look shiny as ever :) , actually it could do with a soft polish don't want any of that gold rubbing off!!!

The 20 Mark Reichsgoldmünzen of the German imperial empire were coined and issued in the years 1871 to 1915. On the reverse motif, two changes were made during the embossing period:

1871 till 1873

1874 till 1889

1890 till 1915

The 20 Mark Reichsgoldmünzen were decided with the Münzgesetz from 10.10.1871 as gold coin to two crowns (double crown) and from 1871 also coined and issued. The first copies had the value 20 M, which was changed from 1874 to 20 marks marketed, so that the currency indication "Mark" should be better impressed with the population. In 1890, however, the number side motif was then modified, whereby the Reichsadler was significantly enlarged.

In the years 1959 to 1962 very many counterfeits of nearly all German 20-Mark gold coin types were manufactured in the Fälscherwerkstatt Schmidt-Hausmann and partly even over banks, so that a not negligible part of all 20 markings of gold are imprinted counterfeits , In the case of the gold purchase, 20 marks of gold are therefore tested for not only the weight and the 900 gold content, but also if genuine.

Weight : 7,96g
Gold content : 7,16g Gold
Diameter : 22,5mm
Thickness : 1,4mm
Current gold value : 256,93 euros

Of the genuine 20 Mark Reichsgoldmünzen are still so many in good preservation in circulation, that the usual types are now used near the gold price as popular German investment gold coins. For investors, it is nice to know that their investment gold has already surpassed two wars and some monetary reforms without losing any value, and that even their own great-grandparents could pay with it.
