Hello my fellow steemians!! It looks like I’m in a great mood to share my history articles once again. Alongside writing poetry, stories and blogs, I greatly enjoy gathering information about this highly favorite subject of mine and write an article for you guys. I was reading a horror story about a ghost ship earlier, and thought “hey, I can write an article about this” - However, these are not fictional (at least to some degree). I hope you’ll enjoy this article.

For many years now, ghost ships have awakened the fear and fascination of many, from experienced sailors to ordinary passengers, all feel this with the same intensity (which includes me). The stories feature mysterious disappearances, wrecks without survivors, abandoned ships. Are you going to say that you are not interested in these stories?
It is common to find tales of abandoned transatlantic or vanished without a trace, especially on the internet. These facts often cause great interest in people and curiosity is sharpened. So I have separated six cases of ghost ships for you to know a little more about this mystery.
The Caleuche
source
El Caleuche is a ghost ship that is always in the waters of the seashore of Chile. "El Caleuche always sails at night and appears suddenly in the fog, always very well lit," writes author Ann Bingham.
In her book "Southern and Mesoamerican Mythology from A to Z" (Chelsea House, 2010), she says that the ship "guards the waters and punishes severely all those people who bring difficulties to the sea or to the creatures that live in it".
HMS Erebus and HMS Terror
source
On May 19, 1845, two ships - HMS Erebus and HMS Terror - departed for England with the sail set for the Canadian Arctic. Their goal was to navigate through the treacherous waters that branched the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. guided by Sir John Franklin, the two vessels went out to amass samples and carry on scientific studies through the journey.
Within them 134 officers and men of the expedition departed, but none of them ever returned. Information were afterward found on a deliverance mission that indicated the ships were cornered in the ice of King William Island located in the Canadian Arctic. On June 11 of 1847 Franklin passed away, and, on April 22, 1848 the ships were abandoned.
The subsisters attempted to cross the ice to make it to the Canadian continent safely, but gratuitous to say, the mission turned into a failure.
København
source
On December 14, 1928, the København, a Danish sailboat, left the Rio de la Plata, between Uruguay and Argentina, for Australia. He was remarkable for having five masts. "It was a very easy to find vessel equipped with radio, auxiliary engine and large lifeboats," Hamish Ross writes for Sea Breezes magazine.
"It was a training ship and had a crew of 60. Many of them were cadets, some from very important Danish families." The vessel made radio contact with the Norwegian steamship William Blumer on December 21, but it was never seen again after that.
"After the disappearance of København, many theories have emerged about it, but most likely it has hit an iceberg in the dark or haze," Ross writes. "There were reports of visions of a ghost ship of five masts in 1930. In 2012, wrecks that might have been from København were found on Tristan da Cunha Island.
HMS Eurydice
source
HMS Eurydice was a Royal Navy training ship. In 1878 it was vanished during a sail by the Isle of Wight. An abrupt snowstorm had sunk the ship, which killed it’s 364 crew, after a quiet day. The phenomenon occurred so suddenly that people did not have time to react, according to press reports.
"The Eurydice continued with the sail up and with its doors open before disappearing in the middle of the blizzard," Victoria Bartlett wrote in an article for the BBC website. "At last there were only two survivors," Bartlett observed. The ship still continued to float, but as it was heavily damaged, it sank.
Since then, several reports of a ghostly vessel are haunting the area. Sailors and visitors claim to have seen a ghost ship on the Isle of Wight. In the 1930s, a British submarine encountered HMS Eurydice in its "dead" form. In addition, Prince Edward allegedly saw the ship during the filming of a documentary in 1998.
Mary Celeste
source
On December 4, 1972, a group aboard a ship called Dei Gratia, found a vessel called Mary Celeste drifting in the Atlantic Ocean, quite near to the Azores. She was completely abandoned. Of the 10 people known to be aboard the ship could never be found.
A lifeguard was missing, but nothing on the ship gave any indication about why the ship was deserted. The group discovered that there had been some flooding. The ship was carrying more than 1,700 barrels of alcohol, some of which had already spilled into the vessel.
The crew of the Dei Gratia took the mysterious ship to Gibraltar, where the British officials started to investigate the matter. They were not able to come up with a determinate answer and the case of the ship still remains unsolved, as well as all the people who were on board were never found.
Flying Dutchman
source
Now, this one I’m sure many of you have heard of at least once in your life. This one is one the most famous mystery ships in the history. However, I must put it on my article, because, no article regarding mysterious ships is complete without this one.
This most famous ghost ship of all haunts the waters close to the South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope.
There are several editions of the account, but the most notable one is that the captain of the ship, Captain Hendrick Vanderdecken, who is from the seventeenth century, encountered a storm on the Cape of Good Hope and cursed God and all the elements He was sending. The ship struck a rock and sank, carrying the entire crew along with it.
Since then, the captain and the entire ghost crew can be seen sailing through the waters, waiting for the day to be forgiven. "His entrance was refused on all doors and are doomed to remain in the ocean until the time when his penance will expire," recounts a story published in a 1803 book written by John Leyden.
So, my friend, that was about it. I hope you've enjoyed reading my article. Please let me know what you think of it in the comment section. For more articles like this, along with poems, stories, blogs and photos, follow me here on steemit.
