This Day in History – July 22, 1934 - John Dillinger is Shot Dead by the FBI

in history •  7 years ago  (edited)

Thirty days after his birthday and being declared Public Enemy No. 1 the FBI exercised their might by killing Dillinger outside a Cinema in Chicago.

At the time Dillinger was one of the most famous and recognizable names on the airwaves and in newsprint. He seemed unstoppable in his bank robbing spree during a time when in America most people were losing their homes and literally had no money. Dillinger was robbing the institutions that many Americans blamed for the problems they were facing at that time. Those institutions have only gotten stronger since then.

He escaped prison twice and killed one police officer. He was hated by the system and after killing a cop: he didn’t exactly make any friends with the public. He was fearless. Even with the Justice departments issuing $15,000 worth of rewards for his capture still Dillinger strolled his hood in Chicago, he went baseball games with his pals and continued on like a normal guy with all the heat falling on him. After all he was shot down by the Fed’s outside a cinema not far from his home.

People didn’t really know that he was who he was. It came down to his “red haired” girlfriend, Sage was her name, who came from Romania and was believed to operate a brothel. It was during a brutal heat wave that claimed over 20 lives in the city that he was shot. Dillinger had told Sage he wanted to go to the cinema.

Sage was in the process of deportation hearings and wanted to find a way to stay in America. She snitched and told the FBI where to find him and when. Did she do society a favor or was she just looking for a green card?

Dillinger died at 31 years old. 1903-1934. It’s easy to see how women at that time could fall in love with such a bad boy. His hair, his fashion, it rebels against the norms of the times, yet it's not trashy and unkempt.

To some he was an evil being that fought the institution’s, to others he was fighting their fight. Oh, how times have changed. Today’s freedom fighters are rejecting banks and institutions and choosing to use crypto and smart contracts because you get what the deal said and people control their destiny, better be clever if you’re going to make it in the new age.

The rest is history.

Back History of the 1930’s in America. The Dirty Thirties

This was a time in America when banks failed, stock markets crashed and it’s the biggest fear in American politics today. The ultimate goal of the government in capitalist society is making money first, than taking care of the rest. With all the money depleted for various arguable reasons people pointed to the banks for seizing the lands, houses property and so on while millions suffered losing all their possessions. With farmers having lost their land food production dwindled and food prices skyrocketed.
