Roman Legionary

in history •  7 years ago

A Legionary had a heavy load!

His helmet weighted 3kg, mail shirt 10kg, shield (wood and leather) 11kg, and equipment totalled 18-27kg.

This included a spade, pick axe and mattock for trench-digging, a wooden stake for defensive fencing, food, cooking pots and personal satchel.

He also had a light and heavy spear, sword and a cloak that doubled as a blanket.
