On this day in Petrograd (St. Petersburg), Russia in 1917, the second All-Russian Congress of Workers 'and Soldiers' Deputies was held. The main parties represented at the congress were the parties of Bolsheviks, Mensheviks and Social Revolutionaries.
"The provisional government" and the ministers occupated the building of the Winter Palace which were guarded by the tsarist troops. To the defenders of the Winter Palace were presented with an ultimatum for surrender. Subsequently, there was an assault on the palace and the overthrow of the government. In Russia, the era of the "Communist" party began, which lasted more than 70 years until the end of the 1980s.
