The History of Belly Dance American Tribal Style- Shahidi Shams Naada

Hello Steemians, some days ago I promised you to talk about the tribal belly dance history, but especially my tribal style. So, here I am, after a long week end of dance in Mexico City, I'll post some photos later.

First I will start talking just about the history of Traditional Belly Dance American Tribal Style, and then I will talk about everything I have learn about dance to make clear the differences of my tribal belly dance fusion style and finally I will tell you about the tribal fusion style that I want to reach.

Ok, belly dance has many derivations, but what happens with the tribal? Too many people think that tribal belly dance is just a variant of Raqs (belly dance) but no, actually the tribal belly dance is a new style of dance, a full one I would like to say the origin of belly dance tribal style is Raqs, but I repeat it is not a variation of Raqs. Why do I say this? Because if you are studying Raqs, you will never learn the belly dance tribal style vocabulary, also the tribal postures are almost the opposite of Raqs once you start comparing... Belly dance American Tribal style is very similar to Raqs, but it is not Raqs.

Belly Dance American Tribal Style was created in San Francisco in the 70s by Jamilah Salimpour especially, Masha Archer and Carolena Nericcio. In the 60s Jamilah Salimpour director of the Bal-Anat Dance Company. She was inspired by the dance and costumes of Middle East, Northern Africa and Mediterranean. Jamilah used to observe in the United States the dancers who came from: Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, she observed they traditional dances, then she began to catalog certain movements of they. Jamilah created a tribal dance vocabulary, which is known as the repertoire of Belly Dance American Tribal Style.
