WHAT IS ART?

Simply put ART means Anti retroviral Therapy..it can also be called ARV simply meaning Anti retroviral..
ART or ARV is a medication that is used for the management of HIV..
ART/ARV has successfully been used to suppress the replication of the virus in persons who have been infected with HIV..
Research has shown that when a person has been infected with HIV and placed on ART/ARV, that within 6months to a year the ARV will suppress the virus in the persons body to an extend that the viral status becomes undetectable..by undetectable I mean that the rapid test kits currently being using for HIV testing will not be able to detect the HIV virus in your blood...
Being undetectable doesn't mean one has been cured of HIV..it simply means that the virus is no longer in ones body in harmful quantities..
Being undetectable doesn't also mean that one will now stop taking the ARV, one will still need to continue taking the ART/ARV for the virus to stay undetectable..stopping the ARV/ART gives room for the virus to replicate ..
In conclusion a person infected with HIV can still live a healthy life.but u can only live a healthy longer life when you are on ARV/ART
To avoid being infected Use a Condom consistently and correctly, avoid sharing sharp objects, ensure blood is screened before blood is transfused to you![]()
