So this was it I thought to myself, the race instructor began the countdown. On your mark he said, I could feel my heart pumping so intense than usual. Get set he shouted out, it felt like my body moved on its own to the ‘get set’ position, I breathed inhaled in like never before, GOO! He exclaimed, my legs sprung me forward and I started to take to my hills. Out of my surprised I could see a contest already in front, about a few meters ahead. I was so confused and didn’t have time to think about it how he was so fast than the rest who were almost in the same positions, was I going to lose? I began to think, then I saw I was the only student still in the race, the others had stopped. What was going on, I didn’t have any idea what it was so I stopped too.
It turns out that the racer in front of us started before the instructor told us to go, I was kind of relief because I had some of the pressure on me reduced and I was in a much calm mind to restart the race. We walked backed to the starting point and as we did, I could hear the other racers murmuring about their dislike in starting over the race again. The racer who caused the inconvenience too was even much ashamed, but it was all good for me. I was much composed to start the race again, the student spectators were also disappointed and were even furious to have to be in suspense till we start over again. But I had a grin on my face as I knew I wouldn’t have race well, I ought to thank that guy I said to myself.
We went back to positions to start the race again, and I was much calm and composed than before. I didn’t know what when the instructor said go, but briefly saw myself taking to my hills in the race with the other contenders. We were almost in the same position, but I looked up in front and saw a racer way ahead of us. I was in shock and surprise, I thought we will be called back again thinking he started earlier before us, but this guy was just so fast. I tried to catch onto him, he was too fast. Just when I had him as an obstacle to overtake, two other racers were passing fast by ahead of me. Was this a joke, how are they that fast?! I tried my best not to be overtaken by them, but my efforts didn’t pay off. I was now in the fourth position and we were almost at the finishing line, I struggled to catch onto the third person but he had just cross the finishing line. The race was all over, the students rushed in joy to cheer the winner. It was a guy from our neighbor school, he won the inter senior high school 100meters race. I came in fourth position, and my school had another student who came in second. It was my friend from art class, I was much relief seeing what he has accomplished for the school. He has made the school proud and qualified for the next stage of the competition, I guess I’ll have to train as hard as he did next time.
