FPL GW 37 Analysis - Midfielders || the-gorilla

Having completed my analysis of Goalkeepers and Defenders yesterday, it's now time to look at the Midfielders.

Due to my break in Gameweek 32, there aren't any Midfielders to move into our archives but a special mention to last week's selection, Diogo Jota who picked up a season-ending injury that was announced after the deadline. Sorry, Diogo. I feel responsible and wish you a speedy recovery.

As ever, the past performance of my picks is available at the end of this article.

Time to look toward the end of the season and as usual, I'll pick up to 2 players in each position -

  • the primary pick based upon all analysis
  • a cheaper pick if the primary's a premium option.

And as always, I'll begin with my custom metrics:

These 5 teams are far and away the best teams to look at from my own metrics so let's see what Midfield options they present to us. I suspect I'm not the only one who needs a Jota replacement.

Such a shame about Jota and suddenly @fplcanary's suggestion of Joe Willock as captain doesn't seem so crazy! I'm actually almost lost for words. Almost.

No point messing about...

⭐ Mohamed Salah

Salah's back on form and Liverpool have the Champions League to play for so there's absolutely no fear of rotation whatsoever. The choice almost doesn't need any justification.

So just the budget options to review.

It's worth noticing that Raphina is back from injury now so will be back getting more minutes which increases his appeal. He moves up to 4th on a per 90 basis behind Jota, Willock and Benrahma.

But this still leaves us with Joe Willock as the most viable option as our budget selection so let's take this seriously now despite still being in a state of disbelief. Newcastle are playing with freedom now that their season's over with some decent performances and a few goals lately too.

Joseph Willock

v. Man City

v. Leicester

v. Arsenal

That's against 3 teams fighting for European football and we've seen Willock's on penalties. That's not really good enough for me.

Benrahama's my next consideration and he's looked dangerous when I've seen him play. Dangerous until he needs to shoot or get an assist anyway and I've got no confidence that he'll get the game time so I'll move on to Raphina...

I'll only review his past 2 games since returning from injury and see what we have...

Raphael Dias Belloli

v. Burnley

v. Spurs

That's no better than Willock. Worse in fact. And as we continue to go down the list, there are no real gems jumping out so as hard as I've tried to avoid this happening...

Willock is definitely a good shout. But Raphina is not bad either considering he has 2 assits in 2 games since returning from injury

Personally, I like Raphina more than Willock based upon the whole season. The data and touch maps are interesting though.

I thought Newcastle would fall apart once Wilson got injured again. But it's been a bizarre turnaround for them. I don't think you can go wrong with Raphina. I do think you can go wrong with Willock. Although he's a very cheap option. Perhaps a replacement for Gundogan for you?

Willock has been good for Newcastle and Arsenal could want him back. You're right I'll bring him in for Gundogan as he might not even play.

I don't think Gundogan's scored any decent points since De Bruyne came back. And now he's being rested so much I've lost all confidence in him as an FPL asset.

Yhh he had like a good 2 or 3 months and hasn't given good returns since. He could be rested again like you said

😣

We're unlucky man. I actually sold him and got Williock

Don't worry, either Willock will score a hat-trick, or you'll know not to listen to me again 🤣
