The situation in Sri Lanka is more challenging than ever. It's because of the high inflation and unreliability of services such as fuel , food , health and gas. Even if the situation is like this, my country got a lot of positive things to discuss. Today I'm going to take you to ancient city of Kandy , Sri Lanka. It can be considered the most strong kingdom of Sri Lanka in many ways. Kandyan frescoes are one significant characteristic of this era which was a revolutionary period for Sri Lankan arts. Let me show you some Kandyan frescoes I captured on my last visit to Kandy.

These photographs were captured at "Temple of Tooth". This must be your first selection to visit if you travel to Kandy. The paintings of the Kandyan era are very different from other paintings in Sri Lanka. If you interested in ancient paintings, you must have heard of famous Sigiriya paintings. It's true both paintings have used similar techniques, natural colors made with different trees and stones. But the style of the art has changed considerably.

One special characteristic is dark colored backgrounds. Most of the kandyan frescoes have a dark red background or some of them got black background. And painter is more intended to draw imaginary designs than actual realistic
designs. I will discuss this further in my next article.

I collected number of photographs of these paintings and I will share some of them in my future posts. And the " Temple of Tooth" is not famous for the paintings actually. It was the palace of last king of Sri Lanka. The sacred Tooth Relic of Loard Buddha is protected in the palace. There are number of cultural activities associated with it. It's a must-visit place for any traveler who visit Sri Lanka.
