Kandyan Art

Kandian arts , or the paintings belonging to Kandyan era are very special. Actually there are few different styles but they all have common characteristics. These paintings are done on a clay layer. A special clay type called Makulu mati is used which is white in color. The red background is another special feature of Kandian paintings. Even today , most of the paintings are in good condition.
