Hello everyone! Hope you guys doing well.. Here I'm with something interesting about the sea turtles that I wanted to share.

In the world, there are six sea turtle species and most of them are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List.

Do you know, sea turtles can live more than 100 years and some female turtles reproduce every year. Female turtle lays about 100 eggs per nest and come ashore four, five times to lay eggs. Then what make them endangered ??

After baby turtles emerge from the nest, they face to lot of natural challenges. They are more vulnerable specially in their juvenile stage. Beyond that, they face multiple threats caused by humans.

They have been harvesting for their meat, eggs, some are for their skin and shell. Also they are accidently caught up into nets (fisheries bycatch) and capture by the fishing gears. This cause wounds on their body, some are fatal. Even their shell can be cracked. As they can't retract their flippers and head in to the shell (like tortoise), they can badly wounded from these things.

Climatic changes also can affect turtle's life, because they are so much linked to the environment than we think. The sex of the baby turtles is actually determine by the sand temperature. While warmer temperatures produce female turtles cooler temperatures produce the male turtles. As a result of temperature increasing, normal ratio between the male and female turtles can be disrupt.

Then, What about the water pollution?? Didn't it affect them? Once my lecturer told that the sea turtles were eating the polythene, because they mistaken those polythenes for jelly fish, for one of their favorite food. I just can't imagine how flagitious we are. That thing actually made my heart pain and I write this post only because I wanted to tell how complicated their lives, because of us. They even no what mean polythenes, yet they suffer. Those polythenes cause intestinal blockage and they die because of the starvation. Some plastics can harm their internal organs so badly... Not only polythene, but also discarded fishing gears can entangle their flippers and can drown them into the deep. Although they live most of their time in the ocean they come to the ocean surface to breath. They are air-breathers and they can hold their breath for long time. But they can't swim when their flips entangle and they die because of the suffocation.

Turtles are one of the most primitive group that survived from the Triassic period (according to fossil records), nearly 230 million years and here they are listed as endangered thanks to humans. Soo.. let's do what we can do. Let's make a better world for everyone..

Thank you because I didn't know about these facts untill now. Yes it is sad how humans action of polluting being the cause to the endangering of an innocent species. NARA is doing a great job on sea turtles but we also must cooperate.

Happy to hear that and thank you ❤❤

A nice article written on an aspect most of us isn't focusing on. This shows that you are a really kind-hearted person, who loves animals. I too gained a very clear idea of the living styles of the sea turtles and their importance. We should try to protect them, especially by protecting our environment.

Thank you and definitely we should ❤
