Xbox Project xCloud: This is how you can develop video games from a distance

Microsoft explains how cloud services are making it possible for the company's development studios to continue working remotely.
The coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has prompted almost all companies to implement measures to work remotely, so-called teleworking. This has caused problems in the big technologies, but Microsoft have found a useful solution for video game development studies thanks to the Xbox cloud infrastructure, Project xCloud.

If until now we knew that their resources were going to be used to make the Xbox ecosystem available in the near future through an Internet connection, which exchanges data in real-time with the cloud services enabled without downloads through, we now see that this workflow can also be extrapolated to the daily work with the Xbox Development Kits from computers that are not directly connected to the local network.
The result? Xbox Game Studios teams have been able to move forward with their projects with minimal difficulty thanks to Project xCloud.

The latest post from the Microsoft Game Stack blog looks in detail at how this new remote work environment has been implemented, with the Redmond-based company relying on cloud services at all times. "We've set out to solve these remote access challenges by reallocating our Project xCloud resources; to be able to go beyond the mobile phone and create a PC app for developers to have a very low-latency, 60 FPS gaming experience, allowing for continued game development.

According to the information, these are the confirmed development studies that have taken advantage of this Microsoft solution to continue their work: Eidos-Montréal, Infinity Ward, Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Rare, Turn 10 Studios and Undead Labs.

Xbox Games Showcase, July 23rd

Coincidentally or not, many of those names sound strong enough to be big players at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft's event this July 23rd. That's the day we'll see the first major Xbox Game Studios projects for Xbox Series X. For now, it's confirmed that we'll be watching Halo: Infinity.
