Disney has pushed back the theatrical release dates for several of their upcoming films including Mulan, the Avatar sequels, and the three currently untitled Star Wars films originally slated to be released on December 2022, December 20, 2024, and December 18, 2026 in response to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
According to THR, the theatrical release for each of the films will be delayed by one year.
The new theatrical release dates (via Variety) for the next three Star Wars films are as follows:
December 22, 2023
December 19, 2025
December 17, 2027
The word “all” is included in the THR report, so we obviously assume this delay not only applies to each of the three previously-mentioned Star Wars films, but also Rian Johnson’s trilogy, the film being planned by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, and the film being developed by Taika Waititi as future projects that will see their respective release dates pushed back a year (or potentially more). It is unclear at this time if any of these Star Wars projects were earmarked by Disney for the 2022, 2024, and 2026 release dates or if they are in addition to those three films.
