ACTIVITIES The Modul Nusantara, which is part of the Independent Student Exchange Program (PMM), can synergize and collaborate with arts and cultural activities in the regions so that students can be actively involved in them. Many benefits have been felt by students while participating in the Nusantara Module activities at various campuses in Aceh, including at Universitas Malikussaleh.
While participating in the Nusantara Module in PMM-2 since last September 2022, as many as 140 students at Malikussaleh University have been involved in various arts and cultural activities. They also take part in various diversity gatherings, reflections, and inspirations that further strengthen respect for differences and diversity.
One of the lecturers supporting the Nusantara Module at Universitas Malikussaleh, Ayi Jufridar, said student activities could be synergized with the arts and culture calendar in the regions. “For example, when there was an art activity at the Lhokseumawe Museum, there was an offer from the Department of Education and Culture for our students to perform. Coincidentally, they were learning the tarek pukat dance. But because they are just learning, the children are not confident about performing," said Ayi when she was a guest speaker at the Numpang Nampang dialogue program at Pro 2 RRI Lhokseumawe, Friday (30/12/2022).
The celebration of the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday in Aceh was also an activity involving Nusantara Module students. They can see directly and even be involved in the celebration of the Prophet's Birthday. Likewise, other routine traditions that take place in Aceh, can involve students to better understand and enjoy the richness of regional culture.
Garut University student, Mohammad Faisal, said that during the Nusantara Module with 25 meetings on Saturday and Sunday, they could see Aceh's rich culture. Module activities are not only focused on Lhokseumawe and North Aceh, they also reach Takengon, Banda Aceh, and even Sabang.
“I learned many things while participating in the Nusantara Module program. Some of the traditions in Aceh are the same as our area in Cirebon. But with a different name," said Faisal in the dialogue guided by Robby.
Faisal, who is the chief of the tribe of 140 PMM students at Universitas Malikussaleh., among others, expressed his admiration for the history of Cut Meutia's struggle during a visit to the traditional house in Pirak Mosque Village, Matangkuli District, North Aceh. Faisal et al also saw the process of making rencong (traditional weapon) manually in Tanah Pasir, North Aceh, studied disaster mitigation at the Tsunami Museum and Floating PLTD in Banda Aceh, and understood and enjoyed Acehnese peunajoh (culinary).
"We were introduced to Aceh's traditional culinary delights, and even enjoyed them. We also learned about marriage customs in Aceh and studied traditional musical instruments," said Faisal in the Numpang Nampang dialogue broadcast by the Korwil 17 network. Not only in Lhokseumawe and its surroundings, the broadcast can also be heard in Banda Aceh, Takengon, and Meulaboh.
During 25 meetings, Nusantara Module students participated in 14 diversity modules, seven reflection modules, three inspiration modules, and one social contribution. The Inspiration Module presents three inspirational speakers, including Rohani Idris, a painter with disabilities in North Aceh.
Responding to Robby's question about social contributions, Faisal revealed his activities with his friends in Gampong Pri, Tanah Pasir District, North Aceh. They make a traditional musical instrument typical of North Aceh, the alee tunjang, which is almost extinct. The length of time for making mortars meant that Social Contribution meetings had to be held up to three times. "The work of making alee tunjang mortars, assisted by a tunjang alee artist. We can only handle the rough part," said Faisal who hopes the local government can support him.
Alee tunjang is a traditional art from North Aceh which is almost extinct. Without government support, this art is only history.
Asked about suggestions going forward, Faisal hoped that PMM-3 would be better than PMM-2 and with much better preparation. "The implementation of PMM-2 will certainly be evaluated and can correct various existing deficiencies," said the student who was setting foot in Aceh for the first time.
Separately, Universitas Malikussaleh. Independent Learning Campus Coordinator, Prof Dr. M Sayuti, said the Nusantara Module program had ended and students would leave Aceh starting January 7 2023 through Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Banda Aceh. "Hopefully the students can make a good impression while studying at Malikussaleh University," he hoped. [@ayijufridar]
“Saya mempelajari banyak hal selama mengikuti program Modul Nusantara.
