139 Rohingya Refugees Temporarily Accommodated on Land Owned by BPKS Sabang.

A total of 139 Rohingya Immigrant Refugees who arrived at Batu Hitam Jurong Keuramat Beach, Gampong (Village) Ie Meule, Sabang City, Aceh Province, Indonesia, Saturday, 2/12/2023, are currently being housed temporarily on land owned by BPKS Sabang.

There the Sabang government has set up tents to accommodate Rohingya refugees consisting of toddlers, children, women and men. The handling of refugees is then handled by UNHCR and IOM.

"The move to the BPKS land location is only temporary or transit accommodation before being moved to another location by UNHCR," said Head of the Sabang City Social Service, Naufal, Sunday, 3/11/2023, to several media.

He admitted that he chose the location on a field owned by BPKS because the Sabang government did not have another shelter.

Meanwhile, the Acting Mayor of Sabang, Reza Fahlevi, stated that his party could only temporarily accommodate the Rohingya refugees there.

"Regarding how long it will take, we want the Rohingya refugees to be moved from Sabang City as soon as possible," he stressed.

Previously it was reported that hundreds of Myanmar Rohingya Ethnic Citizens had landed again in Sabang City, as many as 139 boat people arrived at Batu Hitam Jurong Keuramat Beach, Gampong (Village) Ie Meule, Sabang City, Aceh Province, Indonesia, Saturday, 2/12/2023, around at 03.00 WIB.

The refugees used wooden boats that were the same shape and color as before. The arrival of the boat people attracted the attention of the local community, people immediately went to the beach to see their condition.

Local residents were also seen carrying aid given to Rohingya refugees. These include food, suitable clothing, blankets and other assistance.

Although residents voluntarily help the refugees by providing them with food and other basic necessities, some local residents strongly refuse to accommodate the refugees in their village area.
