Acting (Pj) Regent of Bireuen, Aulia Sofyan, PhD immediately visited several residents' houses in Gampong (Village) Blang Tingkeum, Uteun Reutoh, Geulanggang Baro, Kota Juang District, to confirm and see in reality the condition of children under five years (toddlers) who were suspected of experiencing stunting Wednesday (8/5/2024) morning.

During his working visit, Acting Regent of Bireuen, Aulia Sofyan, was accompanied by the Head of the Health Service, Dr. Irwan A Gani, City Secretary Juang Muliyadi, SP MSM, Head of Puskesmas Nana Dhiana, and officials, keuchik (village heads) said.

He went to several residents' houses following up on the message from the Acting Governor of Aceh. "The Governor of Aceh, a few days ago, WA me and said that Bireuen was one of the districts where the stunting rate had drastically increased, so today we went down to see several children and we saw that the children were healthy, maybe their bodies were a bit short," he explained.

Through direct monitoring of children's conditions like this, we from the Bireuen Regency Government want to ensure an increase in stunting rates, because so far the Bireuen Regency Government and the ranks of the Health Service, across sectors have worked together and made efforts to prevent and reduce stunting.

Head of the Juang City Community Health Center, Nana Dhiana, SKM at the same time at the location also explained the stunting prevention steps being taken. There are several interventions that are carried out to monitor the child from the Posyandu. If they do not gain weight twice, there must be intervention.

"If the intervention is a disease, we will direct them to be taken to the Community Health Center so they can be examined by a doctor. If there are comorbidities, we must refer them to a specialist doctor," he explained.

Regarding fulfilling nutrition for children, especially if there are parents who cannot afford it, said Nana Diana. From the Ministry of Health there is already a local supplementary feeding (PMT) program aimed at children under five who are undernourished, not stunted. "We carry out this program for three consecutive months or 90 days," he explained.

Likewise, from the Gampong Government or Village Government there is also an allocation for PMT aimed at malnourished children. "From the Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) data for Gampong (Village) Blang Tingkeum, there were eight children. After we checked the field, only three children were truly stunted and not yet stunted," said the Head of the Juang City Community Health Center.

One of the children who was stunted was Abrar, the child who was visited, said Nana Dhiana while also explaining that this stunting occurred because the parents were short, not because of chronic malnutrition, so the child was also short.
