Acting Governor of Aceh, Safrizal ZA, inaugurated the revitalization of the Habib Bugak Historical Site Cultural Heritage (Habib Abdurrahman bin Alwi bin Syekh bin Ahmad Al Habsyi) in Gampong Pante Peusangan, Jangka District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, Friday, 7/2/2025.

During the inauguration, Safrizal signed an inscription as a symbol of the government's commitment to preserving Aceh's historical heritage.

"Preserving historical sites like this is very important to strengthen Aceh's cultural and Islamic identity. We must preserve and respect the legacy of the scholars and previous figures who have contributed to the development of civilization in this region," said Safrizal.

Habib Bugak, or his full name is Habib Abdurrahman bin Alwi Al-Habsyi, was a cleric from Mecca who came to Aceh around 1760 during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Mahmud Syah I.

After settling in Aceh, he became an influential figure in the Peusangan area and its surroundings, and was known as a successful merchant with extensive agricultural land ownership around Krueng Peusangan.

One of Habib Bugak's greatest contributions was to endow land and buildings in Mecca known as Baitul Asyi. This endowment was intended to help hajj pilgrims from Aceh, and its benefits are still felt today.

Every year, hajj pilgrims from Aceh receive funds from the management of the endowment, which in 2024 will reach 1,500 Riyals per person.

The Head of the Aceh Culture and Tourism Office, Almuniza Kamal, explained that the revitalization project includes the construction of facilities and infrastructure around the tomb of Habib Bugak with a contract value of IDR 1.725 billion.

"This revitalization is a form of appreciation for our history and cultural heritage. With government support, we hope that this site can become a center for education and religious tourism in Bireuen," he said.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Habib Bugak extended family who attended the event expressed their gratitude to the Aceh government for its contribution in preserving the heritage of their ancestors.

"Alhamdulillah, the government has played a role in rebuilding this site. We hope that this development will continue for future generations," said the family representative.

On that occasion, the Acting Governor and his entourage also took the time to make a pilgrimage and send prayers to the late Habib Bugak.

After that, representatives of the family and community then asked the Aceh Government to build a better road to the tomb. Regarding this, the Acting Governor asked the village government and the Bireuen Regency government to take care of land acquisition, so that the Aceh government could help budget the construction of the road.
