This is a story about Michelle looking for her brother.
It is after 1990 the year of the war. Michelle is a foster child and lives in "Fort Ted" a place we wouldn't call a suitable foster home for a child (not far beyond the truth where foster parents are mainly interested in the payment).
In the new world neuro casters (invented by Ethan Skate) are common and used by the entire population. It should be the perfect solution to be at two different places at the same time (work and fun). These are helmets people wear to live in a better world, one created by their brains. The real world no longer matters and although the war was about fighting robots this present shows humans acting like vegetables or showing brain activity while sending their drones.
Michelle is an exception. She refuses to wear the helmet and a teacher at school is not interested in the reason or what happened to her which presents the average interest of teachers in pupils. Unlike what the teacher suggests, to wear that helmet and to forget the painful memories, Michelle wants to remember because the memories are important and about her brother, the one she said she would never forget and will always be connected with.
The story starts when a robot shows up in Michelle her room. She flees with it since the possession of a robot is forbidden and her goal is to rescue her brother Christopher, the one she was told he died in the car accident together with their parents.
This film is based on a book and honestly entertaining it has humour and everything you need to have a good time. No need for a basket of rotten tomatoes or a visit to the bathroom. It's a long ago I saw a film I watched till the end without any break.
The Electric State has a lot in common with other films like: AI, the animation Wall-E and the Swedish film Real Humans where robots are tired of serving people and fight for the same right (the war) but also Black Mirror episodes show what the world will look like if robots take over or... worse people are blindfolded by the latest technology and get addicted.
Through the robot Michelle connects with her brother but on the search for the Doctor who told her her brother died she loses him again if the drone attack sent by Ethan Skate is willing to do everything to rule the world forever (the genius brain of Christopher is needed to control the world).
Great phrases:
There is a chance you are not right in your head (said to Ethan Skate)
His answer: Again, who caresMetal and Meat together! (robots and humans fighting for the same)
You can't die if you never lived.
Real life is contact.
The story, music (not a memorable song unless you watch it several times) and characters are good and there are some really cute robots which makes it easy to understand how the world came this far by having help from (friendly) robots (not only because of heavy work) and closed friendships due to lack of contact among people.
Do we live in a better world in 2025? I have my doubts. Loneliness increases and so does the independence from AI and the belief there's no life possible without it. Entire nations change into people without skills, couch potatoes claiming to be bored and busy at the same time. Will the world learn from any war or a film? I doubt it. It's not in the human nature to learn from history. Convenient will always win over alarm bells ringing.
If you don't think too deeply this film is very entertaining and you will not notice messages between the lines or similarities. The settings are far from scary and the focus is on humour due to the different robots Herm and Mr Peanut are good for adding a good dose of it.
Is this film a 320 $million disaster? Unlike the Titanic I would watch this one again... and again. Is it like the book? No, but if a larger public should be attracted this is a way even though I believe the average watcher will not notice the end of the world and the danger theybare in.

I have not seen this movie my friend. From everything you've described about its main theme I think I'll be willing to watch it at some point.
I like this kind of fiction movies and AI characters, I enjoy watching them with my son and on a movie night, eating something delicious to enjoy the moment even more.

If you read and liked the book you might be disappointed but I can read (watch) between the lines and found it enjoyable and the robots cute more like the old toys. 😁

Oh, yeah, I need to see this one. Let's see if it can be done in between work, work, sleep and getting ready for work. More bots to make us to like them. Am still waiting for one to clean the floor.
