By saying Alhamdulillah as an expression of gratitude for all the favors which on this occasion I can still greet all my friends, may we all always be under the protection of Allah SWT.

This time I will take part in a week 6 challenge from @ashkhan with the theme: Disc Herniation. Previously I invited @muzack1 @lhorgic @aneukpineung78, @candra8692, and @irawandedy, to participate in this exciting challenge.

Here we are given several questions that we must complete, including the following:

1.What is disc herniation? Write it down in your own words after gaining knowledge from the lesson post.

Let's see what a herniated disc is, generally this happens to people who are elderly which we know is the age of wear and tear. This disc herniation is actually a problem with our spine, where the โ€œsupport pillowโ€ between the bones or often called a disc, is out of place due to tearing or squashing. Well, conditions like this often occur because the disc is worn out or the influence of aging, often occurs because we lift heavy without using good technique, or because we sit too long, or other reasons due to injury.

If this disc has come out, then it can affect the nerves in our spine. So it will feel pain in the back or neck, it could be in the form of tingling to numbness, and so on.

The way to overcome this kind of disorder is in a mild way first, for example, enough rest, must often do physical exercise, and don't forget to take pain relievers. But if it is getting severe, maybe the doctor will give advice for surgery.

2.How is a herniated disc diagnosed? Is there a clinical examination or assessment test?

As far as I know, to diagnose a disc herniation, we usually consult a doctor first, then he will conduct an interview in order to understand the symptoms such as pain in the back or legs, or tingling and so on. After that, a physical examination will be conducted in order to check the reflexes and strength of the muscles and body. Among the many tests, one that is often used is the Lasegue Test where the patient is only asked to lift the patient's straight leg while lying down so that they can know and see whether there is pain or not. Furthermore, the doctor gives advice to take further tests, for example MRI with the aim of seeing the state of the disc and nerves.

3.Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share a picture, gif, or video of you practicing, preferably a gif or video.

Alright now we will practice three exercises from this lesson including the William Flexion (knee to chest stretch), the Cat & Cow stretch, and the Piriformis stretch.

  • William Flexion (knee to chest stretch).
In this exercise we only need a good and flat place and a little bit of equipment behind us so as not to make our backs hurt when the exercise process begins. Next we only need to sleep on our backs on the place that has been provided. The last thing we have to do is lift our legs, either starting from the left leg or to the right towards the chest (whose legs are folded).

  • Cat & cow stretching exercises
This is probably one of the exercises that is a bit more strenuous than some of the other exercises given. To practice cat and cow stretches, we simply provide a flat place and then we position our body like a standing cat or cow. At that time we only need to lift our head up and also lower it down.
  • piriformis stretching exercises.
The last exercise I did was the piriformis stretch exercise. The exercise is a little easier than the exercise above where the condition of the exercise is only lifting one leg in a condition where we sleep on our back. But please note in lifting our legs instead of folding towards the back but to the side so that the two legs here are very influential to be able to do the exercise. Here's how I practiced the exercise.
4.Share your reviews after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individuals, or patients.

Here I give a review of the results of the exercises I have practiced above, which are William Flexion (knee-to-chest stretch), Cat & Cow stretching exercise, and Piriformis stretching exercise.

  • William Flexion (knee to chest stretch)
In this practice already have reviews that feel relieved and good when have done it several times and routine in our every day. Maybe when we do it for the first time it will feel sore because of the unaccustomed factor. But please note that after doing it our thighs and waist will feel better.

  • Cat & cow stretching exercises
In the condition of practicing cat and cow stretches, it makes us feel the need or the back of our neck a little pulled, as I said earlier when doing the first or second time it makes the neck feel sore, but if it is repeated and done regularly then it is really very good. Maybe even when we rarely do this exercise, then it feels like we want to do it immediately and not feel good before doing the exercise. It would be nice if we routinely do it once a day or every other day or even once a week, the important thing is routine.

  • piriformis stretching exercises.
Just like the first exercise, maybe when we do the first and second time it will feel a little unsuccessful, after repeating it several times, our body will feel good more especially in the thighs and hips. It doesn't feel good to do other work before an exercise like this, it happens when we have done it with more identity.

That's my story for today, how about you. Thank you for your attention and apologize if there are any mistakes.

I have learned a lot about disc herniation and various aspects of its management by reading your post. Your efforts are really appreciated. Good luck for the contest.
