Hello to the Undu community, it is a great time and day to be in Steemit, witnessing outstanding activities and contest. This is truly one of the greatest contest on the Steemit platform and I will like to share my thoughts about LANGUAGES. I hope we are all doing great

1- What is meant by language? Define language in your own words.

The first section require us to define language in our own words. There are many definition to the word language as there are different languages all round the world.

To me, Language can be defined as a system or structure of communication between people of the world. It is the system or means by which People from a certain it particular area set sounds or write symbols to communicate with others round the world.

According to Ethnologue which is the primary source of language data in the world, there are over 7,100 languages spoken all through the world with the most common being English language.

2- How language connects an individual to his family,glob or specific socieity.

As I earlier mentioned, language is the system of communication between people of the world and different places have different languages. With over 7100 languages it means when it comes to communication, the world is pretty diverse. The importance of language cannot be underestimated as it is the main source of communication between an individual and the rest of the world.

Language is important because it helps an individual to be able to identify and relate to a certain culture. People of the same language share the same culture.

Language also help an individual to build great relationships with his family, community and people round the world. When people meet and the speak the same language, the connect between them increases.

Language can help an individual to commune easily and privately with his family and community members. In my country Cameroon with over 100 languages (dialects), we can actually discuss in private when we have other people in our midst.

3- Which is yours mother tongue? and which languages ​​are spoken and understood in your home other than your mother tongue?

My country Cameroon has Two official language that is English and French and over 250 languages that are spoken in the 10 regions. I am from the North West Region of Cameroon and this region is further divided into 7 Divisions. Each division has a different language spoken in it and I am from the Menchum division. The Menchum division has over
15 villages with over 20 different languages. It is really a diverse.

I am from Bu village in Menchum and my Mother tongue is Bu. Both my mother and father are from Bu.

The only language spoken in my home is Bu,my mother's tongue and English which is one of the official languages of my country.

4- How many languages ​​do you know and how did you learn more than one language?

I know just two Languages and English, my official language which makes it 3. The other language or dialect I speak very well us the Kom Language. Where my brother @chiabertrand is from.

How did I learn the Language

I spent most of my live after my father passed away in fundong, the Boyo division. I went there when I was just 5 years and left when I was 25years old. I usually associate more with kom people, I love the culture and that's how I got to learn the language.

5- In which language did you study in school to university and which language do you prefer in the education system in your country and why?

As I earlier mentioned, my country has 10 regions with 2 official languages. Two of the ten region speak English while the rest eight speak French. This was as a result of annexation and the 2nd world war.

I live in one of the two regions speaking English. In Cameroon we call them the anglophones. Since we were annex by Britain, the main language that is used in this part of the country is English. So I studied using the English language right up to the university.

And the university was mandatory since it was an Anglo-Saxon university and the Anglo-Saxon culture demands English be used as a prime Language of communication.

What language I prefer in my Education system of my country

I actually will love to see my country integrate both languages in the educational system. Why I say so is because English and French are not just the official languages of my country but of the world. They are languages used world wide and being able yo express self in any of these Languages is great. So I will say both, but if a choice must be made then I will prefer English since it is the main Language of the world.

6- How one language or more than one languages plays an important role in the development of society.?

Languages as I did mention is a very vital instrument in a society. It is the system of communication in the world and without communication nothing can be achieved.
Communication is one of the greatest tools or component for development in an society. When people can communicate, they can come together.

A country or nation using more than one Language has more propensity for development. It increases Language diversity and remember we said language is a shared culture, so more language is more culture resulting in diverse thoughts. Diversity in thinking is great for a nations growth.

America is the greatest country in the world due to its diversity through the American lottery, bringing people of all race and thus creativity increases.

7- How does culture relate to language?

I earlier mentioned above the importance of language and culture. Language and. Culture are two inseparable value of a community. A Language is a direct gate way to the culture of a place.
Some people say Language is borne out of culture, out of a means for people to express their culture. I totally agree.

Look at the case of myself and Kom. Because I understand the Language so well, I now behave like a kom. The culture is instilled in me. People of the same culture speak same language. Culture is directly linked to Language. The American English is different from the British English and so is the culture of both places..

Language can be said to be part of a culture. Although they are very synonymous, culture is way bigger than a Language but they two are closely linked.

8- Would you like to prefer writing in your own language at the time of writing posting on steemit, if yes why and if not why not?

Yes I will prefer very much to write on Steemit in
my Language for the following reasons;

• A better understanding. I understand my language which is English far more better than any other language.
• Better presentation. Using my language will help me to present quality post and know exactly what to write and which words to use.
• Quality post. Also, presenting in my language will help me in producing quality post on the STEEMIT platform.

9- If you want to promote your language in the world, how will you do it? and if you already done, then how much success have you achieved?

As I earlier said, I'm Verse with 3 languages, English, Kom and laibem(Bu). One amongst these 3 is a world wide Language, it's doesn't go really need promotion but for the other two, I can promote it using the following ways

• Speak it more frequently with others. We easily learn about things we hear about all the times. Speaking my language to others will be a way of promotion.
• Write post on social media platforms using my language
• Carry out tutorials about my language teaching those who want to learn key things.

Conclusion

As I have tried to explain through out this post, Language is a very important way by which people of a certain area use to Express their culture while communicating with one another. A Language is a gate way to the culture of a place so if you understand the Language of a place, you can very likely understand the culture.
