Hello fellow steemians and lovely people from the Urdu community. it has truly been a fascinating 4 weeks and I have had amazing and interesting contest topic in this community. Today I am here to present my contest entry on Weather. I hope it is a beautiful read.
Before we dive into the effects of weather, I believe it is important for us all to fully understand what weather is and since we are giving our thoughts, I will define weather in my own words. Weather can be defined as the day to day atmospheric condition of a place. Weather can be humid, cold, warm, chilly, raining etc.
So now that we have a little understanding of what weather is, let’s talk above the effects on us. Weather is one of the most determining factor in our lives. Weather is not just atmospheric condition; the weather of a place is much more. It is part of the people of that place. Weather plays an important role in most of our decision making in life. Below are some of the ways in which weather affects and play an important role in our lives.
CULTURE.
Weather plays an important role in our culture. The kind of things we do at any particular time of the year as people of a region is determine by weather of our area.
FOOD.
Weather also play an important role in the kind of food we eat. The weather will determine to an extent the kind of crops that grow in an area.
CLOTHES
Also, weather determines the kind of cloth we wear in a region. Where the weather is chilly, we wear warm clothes and where it is warm we wear less warm dresses.
For me, I can say like a Humid (Chilly weather). Not a lot of sun but there should definitely be some water moisture in the air. My reason for liking a humid weather is because I do think I am a warm blooded person. I feel a lot of heat on a normal basis which causes me to sweat ever since I was a child. This has made me to hate hot weather or temperatures.
I do live the central part of Africa, in Cameroon to be specific. Cameroon is bordered by Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Chad, Gabon and Central African Republic. I however live in the North west region of Cameroon, in Bamenda to be specific and we share a boundary with Nigeria. From my village to Nigeria is about 10 hours on a bike.
Cameroon like most of the central African countries share a rather unique seasons. Cameroon has two seasons the Raining season and the Dry season.
RAINING SEASON.
Source"
Like the name sounds, it is a season in Cameroon with a lot of rain fall. This season usually occur for over 6-8 months from April to October of each year, we are currently in the raining season.
DRY SEASON.
As can be detected from the name, the other season is the dry season. It is a period with a lot of sunshine and no rain at all. This season usually occurs around November to March. It starts at the end of a year and ends very early into the next year.
RAINING SEASON
The raining season is my favorite season in my country. Below are the reasons for that
- Temperature. I did already mention that I love a humid weather and this weather is mostly possible during the raining season. I love the humidity.
- Food. The raining is the season in my country where a lot of food crops and fruits are cultivated and as I early said, I am a foodie. So I usually love the raining season.
- Also, the dry season with no water moisture usually make me look cranky, but in the raining season things are better and we look fresher. If you look cranky during the raining season then by nature you are a cranky person.
Rituals are celebrated more during the dry season. As I earlier explain, the raining season is filled with a lot of rain. One disadvantage about rain is that it distorts a lot of outdoor activities. It is difficult to have ceremonies. And in Cameroon, we do not have a lot of rituals that we perform just the annual tradition dance which is from the palace and death celebrations or weddings celebrations.
- Traditional dance. As for annual tradition dance from the palace, it mostly celebrated in the Dry season, in the months of November and December to be specific that is immediately after the rains. This annual dance encompasses other rituals in it and organized to thank the gods for a successful and fruitful harvest
- Death celebration and Weddings. Death celebrations and weddings are also mostly celebrated during the dry season. Weddings are mostly in the month of December while death celebration are mostly in February and March.
- CLOTHING.
It’s funny that I do love the raining season but I do not like wearing warm dresses. I think it comes back to the temperature thing. I do love wearing very light dresses no matter the water but I have noticed most of those are good during the dry season when temperatures are high. You will hardly see me with a warm dress except in extreme situations like the one in the picture below. It was pretty cold that morning and I was to travel.
- FOOD.
As for the food I like. I do not really have a preferential depending on the season. I do eat all kinds of food during every season. But there is some addition during the rainy season.
ROASTED MAIZE AND GROUND NUTS.
This is a special food that comes to use during the raining season when we harvest maize and ground nuts. This combination is heavenly and if you are in Cameroon, then you know what I mean.
- PLUM AND PLAINTAIN. Another delicacy during this period is plum and plantain. It is mostly found during this period and I love it,
- MANGOES. I do love mangoes. This fruits bears and is harvest during the raining season. Reasons why I love mangoes. For one mangoes are very sweet and appetizing to the mouth. The taste is great and I do love it.Secondly, mangoes have nutritional values and are very good for digestion. It is advisable to eat them after eating food.

- PLUMS. Another fruit I love so much are plums, and they are harvested during the raining season. Why I love plums. One of the reason is already above there. It has a nice taste to the mouth and also when combined with things like roasted plantain or corn, it is beautiful to eat.

Also, plums contain health benefit like good for constipation, reduce sugar in the blood etc. There are a lot of fruits I eat like Pineapple, banana, oranges etc and these fruits come out all year round.
Normally, it is difficult to know what a lot of people think or prefer and everyone’s preference is based on his occupation. On based on seasons, people will prefer seasons that help them in their job site more.
RAINING SEASON
However, I think people in my area prefers the raining season mainly because of farming and food. There is always a lot of hunger during the dry season, people cannot grow crops and because of this prices of food stuffs go up on the market. it becomes relatively expensive to feed and so people tend to prefer the raining season because of food. After, what is the use of working if you cannot eat.
DRY SEASON
The season that the people in my area face a lot of difficulties in my area is the raining season. Some of the difficulties include ILLNESS. The dry season is plague with a lot of illness. People turn to fall sick especially with Catarrh n cough which commonly called cold in the western world. Sometimes, viral infections are spread during the dry season with a lot of dust.
- HUNGER.
As I earlier said, food crops are hardly cultivated during this season and so there is a lot of hunger. - DUST.
If you are not in Africa, then you might not get a good picture of how dusty it might get. Dust arises from the sun heating the surface of the earth. This dust makes it difficult to travel in my country. The dry season is like a little drought period.
ANNUAL TRADITION DANCE.
Like I made mentioned in the above question, the only ritual that Is associated with the people of my area is the traditional dance. Apart from that, the rest can be celebrated at any time. The traditional annual dance is usually celebrated around the end of the year depending on any fundom. But since the involve a lot of outdoor activities, they are celebrated mostly in the dry season.
I hope by this post I have given you a run down about the weather conditions of my area. If you do have plans of visiting my country one day, you can choose a season that is more suitable to you and know we in Cameroon are very hospital as our seasons are. Thank you for taking the time to read through
