Introduction

Language is a very vital part of human connection and existence. It is a principal method of human communication, which consist of words used in a structured and conventional manner and it's conveyed by either speech, writing, or gesture. Language is the most important aspect in social interaction in every society, regardless of location and time period. Today we have millions of people speaking different languages in different countries. Although, every country have its own national language, there are still different ethnic groups speaking different languages in every country. Although almost all living creatures have their ways of communicating, humans are the only creatures that have mastered cognitive language communication.

Definitions of language

People have defined language in various ways, but below are my definitions of language.

  • language is system of communication used by people in a particular country or community.

  • language can also be define as a method of communication between humans, consisting of words used in a structured and conventional way and conveyed by speech, writing, or gesture.

  • language can also be seen as a system of conventional spoken, signed, or written symbols by which human beings, as members of a social group and participants in its culture, express themselves.

  • in other, language can be desribed as a formal system that includes signs, sounds gestures, and symbols that are used as an important means of communicating the, ideas, thoughts and emotions from one individual to another.

Importance of language

  • Language help us to exchange our ideas, thoughts, and feelings with others.
  • language has the power to build societies, but also can tear them down societies.
  • it helps to distinguish the sayings of one individual from the other.
  • it help to smooth social contacts, and preserve our culture
-it helps to create cultural ties, friendships, and relationships

How language connect
Source

As I earlier mentioned, language is a tool that help us to share ideas, thoughts, and feelings with other people. As an individual who belongs to a particular family, and a particular society, language is the most important thing that joined us together, because without communication, we won't be able to stay together and share ideas, but with language, we create relationship and get bonded to each other. That's to say language connect us together as a family and as a society. Also, with language, an individual can connect with other people outside his or her society only if he or she is able to understand and communicate effectively in the language that those outside of his or her society do speak.

Which is yours mother tongue? and which languages are spoken and understood in your home other than your mother tongue?

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

My mother tongue is Higgi language. Higgi is a language that's used by kamwe people in michika local government area of Adamawa state, Nigeria. Some of the languages that are spoken and understood in our house are:
  1. Higgi language
  2. House language
  3. English language

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

How many languages do you know and how did you learn more than one language?

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

Personally I can speak three (3) different languages effectively, and they are Hausa, English, and Higgi language.

how I learned more than one language

While growing up as a child, I found myself speaking only Higgi language because that's the general language we speak in michika local government, but when I was six (6) years of age, my parents migrated to Taraba state. Taraba state is dominantly occupied by housa people, so i learned housa there. Talking about how I learned English. English is a national language in Nigeria, and its being used in schools, and other gatherings that involves people from different regions, and as such, I learned English in school.

In which language did you study in school to university and which language do you prefer in the education system in your country and why?

As I mentioned earlier, English language is the national language in Nigeria, and as such, I used English to study in school.

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

the language I do prefer in the education system of my country (Nigeria), and why.

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

I am so much comfortable with my country using English in it education system. that's to say, I prefer the use of English more than any other language in our education system. The reason is, we have different ethnic groups in Nigeria that speak different languages, and English is the only language that almost every Nigerian can speak. As such, for effective teaching and learning processes to take place in school, English have to be used as a mean of communication. More to that, a lot of people from different countries do come to study in my country, and if any other language is being used apart from English, they would find it very different to move inline with others.

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

How one language or more than one languages plays an important role in the development of society.?

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

As a matter of fact, more than one language plays an important role in the development of any society. With more than one language, a society would be able to share ideas, thought, and feelings with other societies. For instance, we all have our languages that we speak apart from English, but because we understand English, we are here on steemit interacting and sharing ideas that are beneficial to us and our society. More to that, with more than one language, an individual can communicate and secure an employment in other countries, which is also a development to his host society.

How does culture relate to language?

The relationship between language and culture
Source

Culture and language are two things that can never be separated, because language is part of culture, and culture is part of language. Without language, they won't be culture, because with language, culture is being passed from generation to another generation. Language also serve as a means in which individuals cultures are being identify. Language is the only medium that the society use to socialize and teach the culture of a society to the younger generation. With language, young people are able to know and learn the culture of their people.

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

Would you like to prefer writing in your own language at the time of writing posting on steemit, if yes why and if not why not?

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

I won't like to use my language in posting on steemit. The reason is, steemit is a global platform, where people from different backgrounds interact with each other, and only few people understand my language. If I am to use my language, majority of people won't be able to understand the language, as such, it will lead to reduction in interaction among people. In returned, this platform will be affected.

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

If you want to promote your language in the world, how will you do it? and if you already done, then how much success have you achieved?

qjrE4yyfw5pEPvDbJDzhdNXM7mjt1tbr2kM3X28F6SraZeokxDs5YphNpepigYosmVt4gyqohVjH3ezuG4iExMuTECxF3UDHE9DZCGiGxTHFAZxSgGZTzWei.png

If I'm to promote my language in the world, I have three ways that would help me achieve it. The first ways is to use my language to act movies. As people watch the movies, my language will be known to people, and it will be promoted around the world. Secondly, I would establish a radio station that will use only my language in broacasting news. As people watch the program, they will know more about my language. Thirdly, I will use my language to write educational books.

Culture and language are two things that can never be separated, because language is part of culture, and culture is part of language.

I agree with you on the point that Language inseparable with culture, but I think it's Language that is part of culture. Culture is not part of language, culture is way bigger than a particular Language.
