Steemit Enagement Challenge | Season2, Week #1 | Why and how Steemit social media is different and better than other social media

Greetings to everyone and a warm welcome to the first week of the steemit engagement challenge, Its my pleasure to take part in this contest.

Social media is a cherishable space through which people from all works of life get to meet and interact, share opinions and have fun. With the help of social media, one can easily connect to any part of the world irrespective of religion, race or gender.

Social media has helped in establishing connection amongst users from different countries of the world. However, it has also done some harms to the society by being used as a tool to incite violence, spread falsehood, and blackmail people. The power possess by social media platforms is enormous and cannot be overemphasize.

Write about the social media you use the most daily and why is it beneficial for you or not?

Whatsapp

Whatsapp is undoubtedly the social media platform I use the most. Its an American base social media platform owned by the super techy, Mark Zugerberg. It was established in 2009 and has since evolved to one of the most popular messaging app in the globe. In 2015, it became the most used social media platform in latino America. Whatapp is valued at about 30billion dollars and currently has more than 2billion active followers globally with more than 5billiin downloads on google playstore. India comes first in that number followed by Israel.

Since inception, whatapp has continue growing from a mere start up, to a multi billion dollar social platform. It has also added interesting features overtime with the latest being an increase in the number of group chat's capacity from 250 users to 513, to enable more users have access to groups.

Whatsapp has being of great benefit for me because it provides me with access to interact and communicate easily with friends and families. It helps me access information or updates regarding close friends through the various features provided by the app. The most important benefit of this app is the direct messaging icon which has allowed users share messages, photos and documents among themselves.

Why do you think spending more time on steemit than on other social media platforms can help you grow in life and benefits your life?

Its simple. In steemit, what you put in is what you get, i.e you receive what you invest, be it time, attention, or money. In other social media platforms like facebook, instagram and the likes, you never get what you put in. In a nutshell, other social media platform do not have a workable reward system, comparable to what is obtainable here on steemit.

In addition to the reward system, its very easy to learn on steemit from other users quality articles on any subject of your choice. Through this, you get to improve yourself both financially and intellectually., this is not obtainable in other media space. What we obtain in most of this places are series if spam messages.

I've said this before, I prefer posting my works and lessons here on steemit where I might receive support and encouragement than posting it on face book where I only get like and nothing more.

I believe with consistency, one can achieve just about anything with steemit. The more we learn, the more we grow, and the more we earn. This is what steemit is all about and has in likewise provided platform in which consistent and passionate users can soar.

In the end compare Steemit with other social media platforms by talking about their advantages and disadvantages, and give examples from your personal experience.

Steemit being the first social media block chain platform came with the vision of providing an interactive interphase where users can write quality content and also earn in the process. This vision has been served overtime through the different initiative employed by the team.

Advantages

There has been so many advantages of steemit, but I'll only mention a few, so my article doesn't get too bulky.

Self improvement

Steemit has really provided a platform through which users can learn from others to improve themselves both intellectually and financially. This has been made evident through the use of the popular tag #learnwithsteam. Personally, I had little knowledge about crypto currencies, but reading peoples quality post about this on crypto academy has really improve my understanding of cryptocurrencies. This sort of services are lacking in the various social media platforms.

Learn and earn

Unlike some social media platforms, that only offer information, steemit in contrast offers both information and earnings. This is evident on the various reward system being put forward by the team to help support and encourage users. Thus sort of initiative is lacking in most social media platforms, hence, making steemit the destination of choice for all.

Provision of quality contents

In steemit, its almost impossible to see a plagiarised content getting upvotes from the curation team, this is so, due to the various efforts of the steemit team to eradicate plagiarism from the site. This has really improved the system because users like me are now certain of the authenticity of the various posts we learn from everyday. This is not applicable in the social media space as they have loads of plagiarised contents particularly in face book.

Disadvantages

One of the major disadvantage of steemit compared to other platform is the problem of accessibility. Sometimes the site becomes inaccessible due to some server issues as was recently encountered. I believe if this can be worked on to forestall future occurrence, it will go a long way in maintaining the popularity of the steemit ecosystem.

Another important problem worthy of mentioning here is the issue of down voting. Though this problem has been nearly nip in the bud, but its still a threat to the existence of users as some whale can decides to take advantage of this feature and abuse the power and the intention it was meant for. I'll greatly appreciate if responsibility can solely recide on the seemit team, it will go a long way to curtail any future misuse of this power.

Conclusion

Steemit is a great platform that has been a blessing to its users right from its inception. Being the first social media decentralised block chain, it lead the way and made everyone believe that block chain technology can be possible in a social media settings.

They're some features to improve upon, this is to make it constantly stand out as the best. Some resources are still yet to be tapped though, but with the efforts of the team, steemit will soon be a destination for all.
