Well, steemit provides the opportunity for the people to earn money. From my point of view, steemit is a combined platform with blogging and social media. But here all people don't well make money.
I have been using steemit for a couple of weeks. When I first entered steemit seeing the posts on the trending list, really encouraged me and I hoped that I will be able to make some decent money writing on steemit. Because the posts on the trending whoever first time sees these will be highly attracted by steemit. Every post on the trending lists makes decent money some of these have made a high amount of money. So, it's natural to be attracted by the new users.
But in reality, some of those posts are absolute shits. But they made a large amount of money from those posts. When the new users will pass a couple of weeks then maybe some of them will come to understand what's the reason behind those shitty posts that made lots of money.
One thing I really don't like about steemit that's the voting value/voting amount whatever it is not equal for everyone. Though it mainly depends on the users Steem Power. The more Steem Power you have the more voting amount you got. According to the steemit system. That's why the users with a high amount of Steem Power have got a large voting amount. This is the only cause making difference between every user. And this also the reason that those users achieved great value and status to the normal steemit users.
Now, come to the senses, the reason behind those shitty posts has earned a lot of money is because they hire the users with high Steem Power. It's more like a business you can say. Well, steemit provides curation rewards to the curator. In normal language, Steemit gives reward those upvotes to the other people's posts. The amount of upvote reward depends on the voting amount value of each user. So, it seems fair, right? Both the authors and the voter can earn rewards from Steemit.
But the sad thing is those users never vote the normal people or users like us in the first place. They usually ask Steems from the authors. When an author delivers Steem or SBD to those users only then the votes to the posts. Here they are taking their own benefits from the authors. Firstly they are getting the curation rewards and secondly they also personally taking Steem from the other authors.
So, in this point of view how can Steemit be a social media? In my view, it's totally not fair. And those users sone are not even author nor has written a single post on the Steemit. Yet they are earning a large amount of money running this kind of internal business. Therefore users like us will never be able to touch their level on steemit. It is quite normal and also frustrating. As the rich are richer and the poor are always poor.
So, this can be another reason why Steemit doesn't get attention from the people. Yet Steemit has the potential to suppress other popular social media platforms. I think Steemit authorities should change some factors about the voting amount. Such as the voting amount of each user should increase according to the age of users' accounts and their contributions on this platform not for the amount of Steem Power. This might reduce the gap between users. And also the authorities should stop that internal business among the curators and the authors.
Thanks for your time and reading this post.✌✌

Steemit isn't making you poorer. You aren't paying anything to them.

I feel that almost everything you say is true. Unfortnately as a platform the benefit is toward whales and those willing to pay to promote, an "average" user is not always in a great situation to profit.
However, Steemit has been at times a great place to connect with people on common interests, seems less active now than a year ago, but I have had some very good conversations with folks who I have interacted with on the platform.

Now you understand what DPOS is through this post... Remember that steem blockchain is a decentralize proof of stake/DPOS to begin with. Users may come and contribute their time/value/ideas/energy without bring any stake/money/buying steem from exchange but this depends on those with stake on steem if they think or want to value your contribution. I know its look unfair but that is DPOS and it is what it is.
