The original French phrase that Marie-Antoinette is attributed to has said—“Qu’ils mangent de la brioche” that means Let them have brioche which is an expensive bread made of butter and eggs. It was never Let them eat cake which has become an idiom.

Apart from utter controversy bread is now a controversy as a healthy food. The common bread we have in breakfast is made of floor which contains tras fat extremely harmful for lipid profile and blood sugar control. As a substitute something called brown bread came in the market with the brand name 'French Loaf' in India. Since it became popular among rich people of the metropolitan many local brands also introduced their version of brown bread. Many popular brands also put on top surface a few grains of oats to name it oats bread as oats rapidly replaces bread from the breakfast menu. When the label of brown bread is examined carefully it is found that it still contains 50% of the floor. Probably their manufacturing facilities don't allow 100% wheat to replace the floor. As a result the trans fats just reduced by 50% in brown bread. The fact is known to just 5% of the over-conscious population. So that doesn't reduce the market consumption of bread.

In my childhood we used to have bread and butter for breakfast. It continued till my first heart attack at the age of 57 years. Unfortunately during my stays in the hospital I had bread for breakfast. I started bothering with my food and its quality. One of my learned friends advised me to replace bread with oats for breakfast. I just tried it and observed remarkable control of blood sugar. I also noticed it in the media.

Still bread is the major breakfast choice in majority cities and towns of India. There are different combinations of bread like French toast (locally known as dim🥚paoroti), paobhaji, ghugni paoroti (pao means leg, earlier floors in bakery was kneaded by foot that is why it is still called paoroti, roti is bread). Now paobhaji bread is very popular bread all over the nation. We also make sandwich with paobhaji bread.

Today I had a paobhaji bread in my breakfast with just banana and coffee without any stuffing. It is a very common tiffin in any picnic. It has given me a holiday feeling after a cyclone hit at the bay of Bengal costal area and incessant rain.
