I will take you on a journey into my past, and we will visit many places in Greece together. I lived in Greece for 16 years until the end of 2020 and was able to take many beautiful pictures there.

I will always attempt to post the exact Google Map link to where the picture taken. This way, you can also see on the map page exactly where we were when the picture taken.

It looks like I will be lucky enough to live in Greece again in May. Then I will also publish current pictures.

I hope you enjoy the journey through Greece, where I will gladly take you along a bit every day.

Something sweet for a change?

In Greece, in every small village you will also find a pastry shop that not only makes really great little sweets, cakes and pastries, but also almost always ice cream desserts. These are of course absolute calorie bombs because everything is very sweet, and the ice cream consists of a high percentage of cream.

Specialities are also angel hair coated delicacies with lots of honey and filled with various dough in which you then find almonds. These sweets are also found in Turkey and were not brought to Greece during the Ottoman occupation. But no Greek wants to hear that. Also, that a Greek coffee is identical to a Turkish one in preparation :)

There are 2 big rules in Greece, never discuss history or politics with a Greek. Because that can sometimes end terribly :)

It is customary in Greece that when you are invited to someone's house, you always bring some cake or pastry as a gift. Since I also smoked, when we moved into a house in Greece, we always had special gifts. More than 10 years ago, smoked meat was not really known and there was no sausage in the butcher's shops. There were a few types of sausage in the supermarkets, mainly Lidl & Co.

In other posts, you will see what I cured and smoked in Greece. I will also occasionally post recipes for easy-to-prepare sausages. It's not that difficult, and with a little guidance, anyone can make cured, smoked or even liver sausage.
