I will take you on a journey into my past and we will visit many places in Greece together. I lived in Greece for 16 years until the end of 2020 and was able to take many beautiful pictures there.

I will always attempt to post the exact Google Map link to where the picture taken. This way, you can also see on the map page exactly where we were when the picture taken.

It looks like I will be lucky enough to live in Greece again in May. Then I will also publish current pictures.

I hope you enjoy the journey through Greece, where I will gladly take you along a bit every day.

the last trip with our 9-metre motor home | 536 Words

I had written before that we also tried to go on excursions in the Peloponnese with our 9-metre motor home. Here the day had come that we made the attempt for the last time. We drove with our battleship to the Ox Belly Bay ( Voidokilia Beach ). This bay is to be one of the most beautiful in Greece. But there are more beautiful ones, which we also visited :). Anyone who has ever been there will grab their head and say, how can you :). The access to the bay is via an unpaved road, which can exclusively be used by a narrow camper. It is not possible to avoid oncoming traffic unless you attempt to drive into wild undergrowth to let oncoming traffic through. Of course, that didn't work with my camper. And so, everyone who came to meet us had to reverse a hundred meters or more to find a place to let me pass. The whole thing happened once when we drove to the bay and once when we drove back again. I will post better pictures of the bay in a later post. Because we have visited the bay several times in the 16 years we have lived in Greece.

As you can see in the first picture, we had a puncture on the way back from the bay. I had a spare wheel with me, but first we had to clear out the entire rear garage to get the correct tools. However, we had no chance of getting the motor home up with the jack and I couldn't get the wheel bolts loose either. Typical of Greece—the first person who came along tried to help. But he had no luck either, then a taxi came by, and the first Greek told him that you need a big jack and a better spanner to get the wheel nuts off. The taxi driver then gave me a lift and dropped me off at someone's house in a village 10 kilometers away, whom he had told what kind of problem I experienced. I wanted to pay the taxi driver, of course, but he wouldn't take the money. He was really offended when I tried several times. Then the person where I was dropped off got out a big pallet jack and also a giant key with an extension tube to throw everything onto his old flatbed truck. I was then loaded into his car, and we drove back to my stranded motor home. With the big jack and the appropriate spanner, it takes less than 15 minutes and the wheel changed and the rear garage of the motor home loaded again. He wanted a measly €10 for his help, which I doubled.

None of those who helped us knew English or German. I, of course, didn't speak Greek either. There were no programs on mobile phones that could translate, and a dictionary wasn't much use either. But you could still communicate with hands and feet, and you could really experience here how helpful the Greeks are.

However, there will be many more articles in which I will report on the helpfulness and also the genuine and honest hospitality.

Navarino Castle and below it the Cave of Nestor Cave of Nestor, which was inhabited in Mycenaean times. According to mythology, the cattle of King Nestor were housed here. Hermes is said to have slaughtered the cattle stolen by Apollo in the cave and the hanged skins then turned into stalactites.
