219 expatriate Bangladeshis from Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain have been exempted from Section 54 liability.

Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. This information has come to light from the written explanation submitted by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka in the Virtual High Court Bench of Mostafizur Rahman on Thursday.

The 219 expatriates arrested under Section 54 on the basis of a general diary filed at Turag Police Station on July 4 have already been released on bail, the investigating officer told the court today. His statement said specific information was available about their convictions in three countries. However, while staying at the quarantine center in the Turag police station area, no specific evidence of crime was found there. For this reason, a report was submitted to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka on October 28 to release them.

Shahin Alam of Chandpur filed an application in the High Court last month after being arrested under Section 54 after returning to the country from Bahrain. This raises questions about the length of the investigation into Section 54 activities. On October 6, the same bench of the High Court ruled on the preliminary hearing of the application.

The High Court directed Inspector General of Police (Investigation) Mohammad Safiullah of Turag Police Station to appear before the court on November 5.
Lawyer Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the petitioner in the court.

Deputy Attorney General spoke on behalf of the state. Sarwar Hossain. The investigating officer appeared in court and gave a written explanation as per the court order. Following the hearing, the High Court disposed of the application with observation.

Later Md. Sarwar Hossain told Prothom Alo that the investigating officer appeared in court and gave an explanation. He has reported to the court for the release of 219 people after the investigation. The detainees were released on bail on different dates from September 14 to October 11 after receiving positive comments from Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AM Zulfiqar Hayat in a written statement, accuracy of names and addresses of detainees and PCPR (past record).

After returning from Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, 219 expatriates were sent to quarantine. At the end of the 14-day quarantine, they were arrested after a general diary kept at Turag police station showing the suspects under section 54.
