The family as mental and emotional support
Greetings to all who read me in this community. Today I would like to write about the importance of family support in difficult times.
I would like to tell you about episodes that have occurred in my life and that of my family. We are working people, professionals, my father has a degree in Chemistry, my mother has a degree in Biology, my brother is a Chemical Engineer and I am a Systems Engineer. We all had a situation of social economic stability that allowed us to go out, have fun, buy food, clothes, travel, but the situation in our country (Venezuela), caused a sudden change in our routine, generating in some cases: bad mood, depression, stress and many other things.
At times like these, family support is very important, support that can allow us to see possibilities for improvement in the face of crises that are affecting our lives. Strengthening the mind, learning to manage our emotions using dialogue, constant reading, especially looking for ways to reinvent ourselves, has been the best alternative for life, we are still in this process, because the fear factor, the uncertainty, are always present, but no longer in the foreground.
This is my family
But how do we reinvent ourselves? To achieve this process, the first thing we have to do is an evaluation and assessment of the self, recognize our strengths, those talents we possess and that possibly because we have been in our comfort zone for 20 years we never saw it and it was always dormant. The people around us, and even more our relatives, know us very well, because they live with us and just by observing how we talk, or walk, how we behave, our attitudes and especially the look we have that day, are indicative of how we feel at that moment.
We can quote the words of Viktor Frankl in his work: Man's Search for Meaning. The meaning of Love: Through the spiritual act of love one is able to see the essential traits and features in the loved one; and what is more, to see also his or her potencies: what has not yet been revealed, what is to be shown. Moreover, through his love, the lover enables the beloved to manifest his potencies. By making him aware of what he can be and what he can become, he makes these potencies come into being.
Exercising together, walking, singing, dancing, laughing, can help to decrease the secretion of stress hormones such as cortisol, and in their absence can help us to increase those known as happiness hormones, which include Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins.
Viktor Frankl expressed that humour is another weapon with which the soul fights for its survival. It is well known that, in human existence, humour can provide the necessary distance to overcome any situation, even if only for a few seconds.
I want to thank this social network STEEMIT, which has allowed us to laugh, sing and dance again, to express what we feel, for me in particular it is the best therapy I have at the moment, so I ask all those who read me to sit down and analyse the importance of our family, and to think that after the storm comes the calm, leaving our comfort zone is very scary, but if we have confidence in ourselves, we can get new options that help us to have a better quality of life. We can find meaning in human existence itself.
