Seeing with intensity

A man who likes deserts, remote places and remote places I was forced to keep a car. Which can get me there safely and with minimal noise. The vehicle will of course be able to handle sand, mud, rocks, routed and rugged tracks, inclines, falls, side-operators, creek and river crossings and almost everything you can imagine. Not Minefields thanks though.

That’s why I’ve always kept four wheel drive. This is my only vehicle that can take me where I need to go. That is, away from society and its noise. I have the skills to use someone I have learned through experience and training and to put them to good use.

I have all kinds of four wheel drives from wagons to yuts, pickups, trucks, bucks. You want to call them. All of these have been purposely purchased for work and have been greatly altered.

The image below is my current four wheel drive. The current model shows the 200 series Toyota Landcruiser. This 4.5 LV twin-turbo diesel wagon has a lot of horsepower and torque work done and a 3.5 ton towing capacity. Good ground clearance, approach, ramp over and exit angles and it's comfortable and everything has that beep too! Owning and driving is a perfect pleasure. It's really fast.

Having said that though, I had to change it for my needs to make it more useful, efficient and secure. This is common though as manufacturers provide fairly basic vehicles that are comfortable. Runs well, matches design rules and price. The rest is in the hands of the owner and I have been accessing my 200 series for more than a year now.

So far I have added an auxiliary battery system to the Redark BCDC controller to receive solar and alternator input for charging. I have added a 60L fridge / freezer that turns off the support battery. It sits on a slide-out roller drawing in the rear load bogie.

My Tamper trailer (the trailer has a battery system) has a 40 mAp Anderson plug to charge while towing, and RedRC has an electronic brake controller that operates the brakes on my Kamper trailer.

I also did a two-inch suspension lift that increased the vehicle’s total vehicle mass capacity (GVM) which meant I could load it with more weight. This required an engineering report and had to drill holes in the official motor vehicle inspection center to obtain consent. I used Old Man Emu off-road suspension for work.

I have added the bull-bar to the ARB Summit, which in my opinion has been criticized for Bangladeshi outback travel and for that time I have also received several recovery points ahead.

There is still a lot to do. But it’s a good start and I have a chance to be very confident when I’m in very remote places.

You will see the spotlight you put on the bull bar.

They are also from ARB and they are called Intensity Solis is a very valid LED lighting system.

I had the same in my last truck but not the Solis which is just new. They have the same light intensity and profile and distance-penetration as standard intensity lights. But with the help of Solis they solved one of the big problems of the past. They were sometimes too bright and could not be changed.

The issue was raised when these were used in shrubs and scrubs or roads. Where tree trunks, straw faces and other things reflect the light of the driver’s eyes. It causes eye fatigue and strain. On open roads they are great for long distances but re-reflected road signs and on-road reflections brought the same problem. So ARB has solved that problem. Disables them. Enter Intensity Solutions. These are very important to us.

The great thing is that these spotlights can work at different brightness levels with 5% to 100% output which is really great. These are managed by a small panel mounted on my dashboard with backlit so always easy to find. A few presses or any other means and I can dial in the desired light intensity for the situation. They are so cool!
