I've always wondered, and never really understood, why some people want socialism.

My problem is specifically understanding those who "fight" to have, or keep, it implemented.

It seems to me that all forms of economic societies are founded on a free market, or capitalism in its most basic form. There is probably no country in the world which has a truly free market system implemented. Most, if not all, economies are based on a forked and modified version of a free market. In other words, capitalism in its most basic form seems to be the foundation of every country's economy.

Even the USA is not a true capitalist country. There are just too many social programs available to call it anything other than a forked and heavily modified, previously free, market system, aka socialist. European countries don't even try to hide their "socialist" markets. I've even heard German citizens refer to their economy as a Social market economy (Soziale Marktwirtschaft).

I remember back in the day you'd hear wealthy people proudly proclaiming their wealthiness, and in the same breath proclaim that they need to be taxed more. I remember thinking to myself, "Which law forbids donating your money to your government?". Actors, it seems, are pretty much into the socialist scene. It seems they're always trying to use their influence to manipulate the populace.

Now, to get back to the individual socialist. They are always complaining that capitalism is destroying the world. You know, they attribute concepts like "greed" to those who are utilizing the free market to build their own wealth. The socialist says that this is anti social, because there are so many poor people who just can't pull themselves out of the gutter, and we have a duty towards our fellow human being. This is commendable, but what are they doing on a personal level besides just complaining and trying to place the burden of socialism on their government? Well, I don't know. Something to keep in mind though, is when the government takes on the burden of socialism, it's the taxpayer who are indirectly responsible...assuming that taxes payed go towards programs that benefit the socialist concept. This, I think, is because the socialist wants everybody to pay their fair share and are willing to use government to enforce those fair share payments.

But, it seems to me that there's a better strategy besides complaining...to whom ever. Why aren't they utilizing the so called free market they insist on demonizing to create wealth which they could use to support those in dire need of a socialist system?

Straight off the top of my head I'd suggest using Foundations. With foundations, socialists could redirect their energy, from petitioning their government, towards finding people willing to donate. Maybe wealthy people that want to be taxed more? They could also use the free market system to acquire wealth and donate that wealth to their foundations, which would be helping the needy. Foundations are possible because government allows them, in some form or other, possibly providing a really effective tool for the socialist.

So, if the greedy are showing us how to build wealth, then why can't the socialists learn from them and use the same process to acquire wealth in order to provide for the needy? With time and effort, an effective socialist system could be built, by the people...for the people, on the back of the free market.

Socialism is a beautiful theory. And only that. It doesn't work with real people; we are the way we are. We may have a chance to build something completely new that has not yet been formulated as a social theory and has certainly not been tried...

You're right, but I don't believe we need a new social theory for governments to operate under. I'm offering a possible free market solution, for which government has already provided the tool.

Homelessness is probably a fairly big problem for most major cities. All those individuals who want, with all their hearts, government to fix that problem could just team up, put their resources together and open a foundation for each major city. These foundations could network with each other. Exchanging knowledge, and maybe even helping each other financially when necessary.

Rich individuals and businesses would have a way to support the needy, while at the same time saving on taxes, if the foundations qualify as charities. Of course the normal people who want can also donate and receive the same tax breaks.

Depending on the sum of donations, theses foundations could feasibly provide free health care, food and clothing, a safe place to sleep and even help searching for jobs.

And a side effect would be that Government wouldn't have to spend so much...possibly lowering it's debt ceiling. It would only need to insure that the foundations are doing what they're designed to do.

It seems to me that this could be a win for all involved.
