This is actually a very profound question

Legalization of drugs is not a simple issue and even though people claim that legal sale of drugs could lead to elimination of illegal business and violence belonging to drug cartels, there are more fundamental social problems present.

On the one hand, it is possible to state that making these drugs available with certain permits like alcohol can help to decrease the number of negative aspects connected with the illicit drugs’ circulation. In this case, we could regulate and make certain that only quality products reach the market, no hazardous items get distributed and those suffering from substance dependency could be aided in a more humane manner. In this sense, drug legalization is likely to change enforcement with an emphasis on the Healthy people.

Nonetheless, I do not wish to extend this risk to a larger society since this may have grave consequences. As you rightly said, there is a clear link between the use of drugs and criminal related activities. But I understood that the primary sources of the issue are stimulant substances as they increase frustrations, anger, and trauma in those people who use both alcohol and drugs. This means that when people try to solve their problems especially in their daily lives by using these substances, they are likely to turn into violent means or even destroy themselves. Perhaps legalizing that drug will help in supply deplete but the barn where people are motivated to abuse substances will still be there full of hay.

Regarding alcohol it is legal but the involvement of this substance is evident from cases of domestic violence, car accidents and other criminal incidences. This goes further to show that as much as one is allowed to do something, the social implications associated with it are not solved. We need better support systems — health and counseling services for mental health, drug and alcohol addiction issues, community treatment programs for underlying issues that force people to turn to drugs or alcohol. The type of crime may decrease, for instance, through legalization but it is not going to be an end to everything if these issues are not solved.

I agree with you on one important point: that is, violence in any form including the use of weapon to solider a drugs or alcohol or any other reason they may have is not tolerable in any circumstance. It is necessary to encourage people to overcome stress, anger and life’s difficulties, with healthy ways not with alcohol or drugs. As you may, there are certain ways such as exercising or, for instance, taking a punch on the bag to produce that negative energy. The question we should ask is: how can we make people have these tools so that they do not run to drugs or start using force as a way of solving issues?

Finally, the debate regarding legalization of drugs is not just about whether we can control it, but for how we arrange our world such that people do not turn to these substances as a way of avoiding their lives.
