Sea of Harmony

in hive-107855 •  9 months ago

This is a fictional story inspired by true events on Steem. Although, similarities to any Steemian in "generative art" are merely coincidental. 😝

She muffled a sob as the events of the awful day replayed in her mind like a horror movie. The dull thud of her heart and the throbbing pain in her head made her oblivious to the angry waves crashing on her bare ankles. Only when she felt the cold against her skin, she came back from her stupor and wanted the waves to wash away her sorrows and drown the atrocity she had to face earlier. In the distance, the sea was deeper and calmer, unlike the boisterous tsunami in her heart.

She was bullied by her only best friend in this strange country who was supposed to be her safe-haven.

What difference does it make if she belongs to a different background or another religion? She was a good human, a good friend. Does anything else matter?

Apparently, it did.

As the full moon played hide and seek with the clouds, glistening tears rolled down her glum face, mixing into a sudden huge wave covering her from head to toe, making her lose her balance. She was so exhausted that she didn't even try to fight back and floated along the waves as if she were dead. It was too late when she realized that she didn't know how to swim. The deep sea engulfed her slowly.

She didn't know how long it took her to regain consciousness. But when she did, it was nothing like what she expected. She was under the sea and yet fully alive.

It wasn't quiet under the sea like on the surface. There were hundreds of people—merpeople happily swimming around. She was astonished to find out that she had also turned into one of them. She pinched herself hard to confirm that it was some kind of a dream. But it wasn't.

It was getting a bit overwhelming for her, seeing merpeople from different races getting along so well - a scene she wasn't used to seeing on land.

Nevertheless, she thought better of it and tried to find someone who spoke the same language as hers, who shared a similar background as hers.

But suddenly, she saw two merpeople approaching her, asking who she was and if she needed any help roaming around. One was Ukrainian and the other looked African from the attire. She wanted to run swim away with all her might but something in their body language made her re-evaluate the situation.

Quite reluctantly but she agreed and let them assist her.

They taught her the undersea norms, tips for finding good merfolk, exchanging traditional knowledge and skills, and secrets of a happy life. One that hit her hard: "Wealth is not in money but in true friendship that knows no bounds."

Days passed and she began to learn their ways. She had never been happier in her life. What happened on the land became a distant memory.

She used to think otherwise but the waters turned out to be different than the vicious land.

A normal day in undersea life was like this...

"A mermaid from the Arabian Sea swims to Camps Bay (a South African beach) to witness a braai. Another makes arepas for lunch instead of a chapati - a recipe gifted by the merfolk living in the Caribbean. Mediterranean folk sail to the Indian Ocean to try their favourite spices. Atlantic and Pacific mersingers sang each others song togehter. Arctic comes to Indian to congratulate on Eid and Diwali. Three different mer-leagues called themselves B-R-U because united they ruled the waters."

She had never seen a cultural diversity well embraced anywhere. Her only thoughts were if this profound undersea harmony could ever be destroyed by the differences at land...

She did it...! ;-))

Never doubted her :)
Surpassed my expectations...

Your mentioning of a "braai" was good enough for me. (•ิ‿•ิ)

I couldn't miss it.

We understand:)

I wish I could hug her!

Your post is brilliant! The prompt "cultural harmony" has been executed beautifully (with Steemit in background), making it relatable to many. The beauty of fiction lies in conveying a strong message without being explicit, and you've achieved that remarkably. Great job with the theme!

Generating desired images through AI indeed poses challenges. It's not really easy to get the desired results with just a simple command. You have to instruct it, feed it, and essentially train it— that's an art of its own kind. Your post has proven this.

Thank you

Thank God. I didn't know how you'd respond because no matter how much I love fiction, I don't usually write it.

When I read the contest post - I immediately thought of creating some fictional story around the prompt and then commanding AI to generate explicit images relevant to some scenes from the story.

I couldn't think of any good storyline at first - after writing the opening scene, it occurred to me that Steem is a great example of cultural harmony and just went with the idea.

It's not really easy to get the desired results with just a simple command.

I didn't like the results it showed with basic commands. I straightened out my story first which gave me a clear mental image of what I wanted to generate with AI.

P.S. I told AI to generate a Ukrainian merman but it was stuck on a mermaid. Sorry @o1eh. 😂

Looks like finding Nemo's multicultural party under the sea! 🐠 Who knew fish could be so inclusive? 😂"

These are special fish. 😉

I love the story and if it comes to the pictures...only the first one. Two be honest I mostly skip them (there's nothing to read) but that Whale fits to Steemit.

👍🍀❤️

The pictures are the visual representation of my story. I'm sorry if you can't read through but mine are well-thought - from the get-up of the merfolk to the undersea world.

You see a whale that's a steem curator (anonymous - hence a complete whale). Rest are part human and part orcas/dolphins/redfish because we know the face behind most authors.

If it's about AI then first one is aslo AI... (:

Thank you for stopping by. I truly appreciate your positive response on the story. (:

Thanks for the respond I appreciate it.

👋🍀❤️

You are great! Your story fits in seamlessly with Chriddi's parable of the herrings without ears and my experiments with the grey cats... This underwater world seems to have a lot to offer! Thank you!

Thank you. I'm genuinely happy that you like it.

And yes, it also reminded me of herrings at one point.

Experiments with grey cats? Tell me more.

Orgh... Sorry - I thought I remembered that you had actively read it. Okay - I've been trying to establish serialised stories in our Community. Firstly, "The Journey of Kadim" and later "All Cats are Grey at Night". The latter also had quite coincidental similarities with events in the Steem universe...

Apropos: if you're tempted to catch up on your reading ( https://moecki.online/search?tags=greycats&author=hive-107855 ) - there's an open contest about it that no one has solved yet:

https://steemit.com/hive-107855/@weisser-rabe/advent-contest-nr-4-quiz

I'd have definitely come across it if you had posted from your personal account because I'm following only that. I usually skip posts from community account because they are mostly community related announcements. I didn't know such creative piece was hiding in one of them... I just read part 1 and already relating it to some special cats...(;

Let's see if I can solve that contest...

P.S. How I wish we had moecki's boomark feature when I see posts like these...

....Meow 🐈‍⬛️

I think such a Community Account should not only be used for messages and announcements; if contributions are published according to the profile of a Community, this strengthens the account on the one hand and the identification with this profile on the other.

I hope that you manage to expose my lapse! ;-))

I second that.

Fingers crossed.🤞

Thank you @patjewell. I tried hard to command AI to create a South African women having fun at Braai. But it said I'm violating the code of conduct. So I had to make peace with only some written reference at the end of this post. 😅
