Give The Devil His Due...

Sometimes I think
Sometimes I speak
Sometimes I sleep
Sometimes I love
Sometimes I hate
Sometimes I share
Sometimes I snap
Sometimes I eat
Sometimes I hurt

But never, I say never, have I taken credit for someone else's effort, even a bit.

This may not be a very great quality in a person, not even worthy of mentioning. But I'm super proud of myself for sticking to this one. I love giving compliments where they are due. I love telling people that their efforts are so well appreciated. And somehow, I don't dislike many people or any habits that I find very off-putting except a few. And in the top three is that one trait of people who take credit for other people's efforts.

I mean why is it so hard? Why can't they 'give the devil his due'?

I will give you a little example...

I got a call in the middle of shopping. The person on the other side asked me for a recipe. I told them while looking for my items in the aisle. The next day, I had to call the person again because, you know, they are family. And I just casually asked how those sandwiches turned out. I'm not even asking for a compliment or some kind of recognition. I am way past these things. The person on the other side said, "Everyone liked them, they were a hit." I smiled and said, "That's a good thing. I'm happy I could help." The person on the call responded, "Oh no, I knew everything. I have made them before. I just called you to..." An awkward silence followed. And I changed the topic of our conversation :)

I may not be a saint myself, but if there's one quality that I am content of, it's that I will never take credit for someone's efforts, even if they have no way of knowing that I did it. I find no joy in it!

I have written the passage above under the keyword "inadvertently" by @weisser-rabe. The Dream Steem community prides itself on its literary nature. I consider myself a small contributor, fulfilling a role of - what do you call, 'a moderator'. To be honest, aside from running two contests and commenting on some posts, I haven't been very active in this capacity. However, I continue to share my work here as I did before, but more frequently. The credit for running this community in such an organised way belongs to the admin. While there may be co-founders or any n number of moderators, like myself, in the future, weisser-rabe will always be the crownless queen. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate her on diligently running the anniversary celebration contests.

A few words about the title of my post: Of course, the admin is definitely not the devil here. She is a friend in this context. I added the italicized passage not in relation to the former passage. It came as an afterthought, and I didn't want to let go of that thought.

It's just that I find this simile, idiom proverb very interesting. Yes it's a proverb! I just wanted to point this out.
