Shayn's Grey Day

The whole room looked like an elephant just walked through.
It was a mess!

‘You look so good in the grey dress, Shayn.’ Dennis’ voice rang in her head once more fueling her anxiousness to find the cloth. Apparently, she has a date with her boyfriend in the next one hour and she'd made up her mind to wear the dress along. Of course, she'd always look so ethereal each time she wears the said dress; apart from that Dennis had personally bought it for her.

She'd been all giddy about the date but alas! Here she is, for the past thirty minutes, looking all over for the dress. She'd desperately grabbed at anything coloured grey in her room. She was definitely sure she left it in her closet
A frown of disapproval was etched all over her face. She'd yet to even have her bath, her hair, the makeovers. Oh Lord! She hadn't even picked her shoes.

Shayn fummed lightly before dashing out to her balcony, and there it was! On the hangers! Like it was waiting on her. She must have forgotten about washing it and thinking it was in the closet all the while.
Within a beat, she yanked it off the hangers.

An hour later, Shayn found herself sitting by a boot in the restaurant they agreed to meet. Funny. She doesn't even know how she was able to pull through and get here within an hour. And look! she was even waiting on him. Patiently.
Ten minutes later, Dennis strolled over upon catching her familiar frame across the table.

“Dennis!” Shayn's voice giddily called out as she smiled. “I got here earlier this time around. I've been looking forward to this date” she straightened her dress once more.

But Dennis had only frowned lightly as he took his seat before her.
“This… isn't a date, Shayn.”

This time, Shayn was the one frowning ‘what?’

“I never said we're having a date. I only said we should meet here today. I have something to tell you.”

‘perhaps, discuss our engagement ceremony.’ The thought ran through Shayn's mind, making her smile mentally.
“Okay. What is it you want to tell me? I'm listening.”

“The thing is… I… I” the man paused as he let out a breath.

“Are you okay?” She asked worriedly, reaching out to hold his hand, but he pulled away.

“I can't do this anymore. Let's break up Shayn.”

……………….

Shayn looked down at the dress which was already drenched by the rain. She was too, and it washed away her heartbroken tears. She shook her head at her pitiful self. How stupid must she have looked, preparing for the date? Ha!
She couldn't even say a word back to him till he left.

She flagged down a taxi. Let's go home. It's been a grey day afterall’

An interesting dive into disappointment. Kudos on that.
