Crypto is one of the segments where learning is always helpful and its helps us a lot. There are a bunch of options available for us to explore. This is my homework task submission for professor @stream4u and its about the coinmarketcap website.

Task 1- What Is Coinmarketcap.com? (Minimum 80 words needed)

Coinmarketcap is a leading website in the world that has almost everything about cryptocurrencies. CMC was founded in May 2013 by Brandon Chez. Its one of the websites where we get everything about coins and exchanges including project information, price, history, charts, analysis, social activities, etc. Overall I can say that it offers a bunch of information in one place which can be accessed easily.

CMC was acquired by Binance in April 2020 and now this platform is owned by the world's leading crypto exchange Binance. Coinmarketcap did not change its approach and way of working even after this acquisition however there has been more innovation on the CMC website in the last 1 year. It could be because of backing by Binance and its good for users however Binance and CMC seem to work as an independent entity.

At ç, we can get the information of over 10,000 coins and almost 400 exchanges, and this number keeps on increasing. Good thing is that the CMC team keeps the information update within the gap of 5 minutes so technically whenever we visit the portal then we get updated information all the time.

Along with crypto coins and exchanges, Coinmarketcap also offers a variety of services and features including portfolio tracking, watchlist, NFT, Learn and Earn, airdrops, and Alexandria, etc. SO there is a lot to learn and explore within this platform and even if you are not looking for crypto pieces then also good to visit the portal and enhance the learning and knowledge about blockchain and crypto.

Task 2-How Coinmarketcap.com useful for Crypto User/Trader? (Minimum 100 Words needed, the screenshot will be addon according to the mentioned information, make sure to tag yourself in your screenshot)

Coinmarketcap is very much useful for crypto users and traders because of the available information. before I buy or sell anything in crypto I stop by here and check the overall information about the coin including price movement, trading volume across the exchange, and total supply, etc. I did spend some time on the website and have gone through some features which are very important and every crypto user/trade should know.

Portfolio

The portfolio is one of the most used features because it helps us to track the overall value movement in real-time. Portfolio tracking is used on every investment and market and its not just limited to crypto segments. CMC made it so easy and I can get my portfolio value in seconds without taking longer and I can plan my activities accordingly.

I have created a portfolio for example purposes and you can see that this is showing an increase or decrease in value through red and green colors. It also shows the asset wise allocation and its easy to determine what asset I am holding more in my portfolio.

The addition of coins is easy and hardly takes a minute time. There is add a new button on the page and once we click the button then it opens a form as shown below. Enter the information and its done and now your portfolio will stay updated in real-time and any time you want to see the value of it can be accessed from here. It also works on the mobile app so no matter what device you use b ut you will always have the information with you.

Watchlist

I want to keep track of some coins but I don't want to visit their pages one by one because its time consuming so a watchlist is a feature that makes my life easy here. I have added the coins that I want to track and now the watchlist does this job for me. Whatever coins I have added will stay updated here in real-time and I can see how these coins are performing.

I can see information like 24 hours and 7 days price change along with a chart including volume and rank as per marketcap. So it makes it easy to track the coins that I want to keep a close eye on.

Thorough Details about crypto and Exchnages

Coinmarketcap provides information about crypto and exchanges through different categories. We can see the information based on ranking, recently added coins, legal tender countries, Global charts, Fiat Ranking, Sportlight, Gainers and losers, and historical data.

Ranking- We can select the ranking option on and this will show the coin list as per the ranking on the basis of marketcap. Like in this screenshot we can see Bitcoin and its followed by Ethereum and USDT.

Recently Added- With this option we can the list of coins added in the last 30 days and many times it helps us to find out coins with high potential. Many new projects have shown significant growth and this is the option here we can use to track such projects. It also shows when this was added at the last option.

Countries with Crypto as a Legal Tender-

This is a newly added option after the announcement of bitcoin legal tender in El Salvador and here in this page, we can some more countries that are kind of lined up and have a possibility to follow the same trend. CMC runs a campaign of voting and if voting goes right then we can earn some extra diamonds so its a rewarding opportunity.

This is another useful feature that most the traders and investors use because they can see what coins are doing good or bad and helpful options to plan out further action.

Exchanges

This is one of the features that help us to decide what exchange to choose on various parameters. We know that Binance is a leading crypto exchange so here we can see why binance is leading. Because it has a better score, higher number of user visits, Higher liquidity, more markets, and volume is also high. In the same way, we can see about other exchanges as well and if we find things better then only we can choose to use them or not. Its very useful for new people because they are not much aware of exchanges and it can help them choose the right exchange.

NFT

NFT is in high demand these days and after Defi, it has quite a big amount of market share in crypto. NFt is Non Fungible Tokens and this way artist can put their artwork on the blockchain which will have a unique identity. Coinmakrtcap has added this option on their website quite a long back now and we can see much more about NFT here. It shows information including collection networth, and the last 7 days' data having total sales and ranking of artists. Basically, ita a form of collectible, and some rare NFTs are highly valuable so if you have an interest in NFt then this is the place that can you have details about it.

This is one of the feature and service that CMC offer is great for everyone. If you are in crypto then here you have loads to learn about crypto and blockchain.

CMC is not just about providing crypto information but also focused to spread knowledge and make their users enhance their learning and Alexandria is the initiative for the same.

Tech Deep Dives- Those who have an interest in more of technical this is the right topic for them and they can deep dive in the technicality of crypto and blockchain.

Task 3- Explain the Individual Page for each Crypto Coin on CoinMarketCap. (Minimum 150 words needed with the screenshot according to the mentioned information, make sure to tag yourself in your screenshot)

We get a lot of information on the Individual Page for each Crypto Coin on the CoinMarketCap website. It provides information in various categories for each crypto coin including Overview, Market, Historical Data, News, Socials, Ratings, Analysis, Price Estimates options.

I choose STEEM and will go through it to explain about the individual page-

Overview- with this we see a pricing chart, price statistics, 24-hour volume, trading volume, 24 hours high and low price, market cap, market dominance, market rank, supply, etc.

Here we also lots of information about the coin and since I have chosen steem so here we can see the information about STEEM. Information about STEEM, its founders, and what makes it unique in the segment. All this can be read and help us to know more about the coin.

Markets

In this option, we can see the market of a particular coin that means its a list of exchanges having the coin listed. Every exchange usually lists coins in various market pairs and these pairs are listed here. As we can see here that steem is listed in various exchanges and that too with different pairs.

Historical Data

In this section, we can get historical data wise along with the price of open and close, high and low. This is useful for research purposes and we can customize it for any particular date and period.

News

We can see news relate to project/coin here however for the steem, the last news was published 3 months back. In this section we can track news easily in one place rather than visiting various places.

Social

Social is an important section because here we can see whatever is going on in social media and as we can see the latest tweet by the steemit account here about one of the contests. This is related to news but more of social updates by the official account. It needed to keep an eye here to keep ourselves updated.

Ratings

This part is managed by the third party as mentioned by CMC and we can go through it to see the rating assigned on basis of overall project growth and market capitalization.

Analysis

I have taken Bitcoin for this analysis tab as there was no data showing for steem coin. Now with bitcoin, we can see this graphical presentation showing various parameters and statistics.

We can see two options here-

Token Summary- This shows a metrics coin through various stats.

Actionable Signals - Showing bearish and bullish summary on basis of trades and the size of the transaction as well.

Price estimates

Currently, this function is in beta edition and maybe soon it goes live but its interesting because we get the option to submit our estimation of price for the coin and then will analyze later when more people submit their estimated value. It would be nice to have a comparison with real price vs estimated price.

Task 4- Explain in detail any 5, what are the CORE Features and Sub Features available on Coinmarketcap.com? (Any 5 including Core & Sub Feature, Do Not Include Block Explorer & Uniswap Feature, minimum 250 words needed with the screenshot according to the mentioned information, make sure tag user self in your screenshot)

There are so many core features and a list of sub-features is quite long but we will talk about 5 core features -

1 : Exchanges-

Exchange is one of the core features and here in CMC, we get thorough details of exchanges. There are 4 types of exchanges including Spot, Derivative, Dex & Lending. We can choose options to see the list of exchanges according to category.

Spot- There are 304 exchanges listed in coinmarketcap under the spot category.
Derivative- Coinmarket has 37 exchanges listed under this category and these exchanges provide derivative trading.
Dex- Dex is known as decentralized exchange and here is a list of 77 Dex updated in the website.
Lending- There are 3 Lending platforms/exchnages listed on the coin market cap portal.

When it comes to crypto then the exchange is a very important part and choosing. aright exchnage is very important. There are so many exchanges available across the world. Some exchanges accept fiat currency and some operate only with crypto to crypto model however we usually try to keep our funds in a reliable and trustable exchange.

Coinmarketcap makes it easy by providing detailed information including volume, liquidity, user weekly visits, markets, number of coins listing in exchange, fiat currencies supported by the exchange. It also provides an option to sort by ascending or descending order to go through. The coinmarketcap also shows a score for each exchange based on things like- user visits, volume, liquidity, and overall trust shown by the users.

2: Calendar

Calendar is another core feature on coinmarketcap and this option is provided on the homepage. Once we select the calendar then we can see 3 sections-

• ICO Calendar
• Free Airdrop
• Events Calendar

ICO Calendar

Here we can see the list of ICOs and also ongoing and upcoming. This calendar has all the information about ICO along with detailed information. We can also filter it on the basis of BSC or ethereum based however by default it shows both. Currently there 4 running ICOs and 16 upcoming which is a good number and we can keep a close eye on it if interested.

Free Airdrop

Free airdrop is something that always attracts us since we all want to get the free money however there is no surety if we receive it. Here we get all the information about ongoing and upcoming airdrops. The good thing is that the listed projects here are quite legitimate and its worth participating however distribution is not guaranteed. Currently, there 11 ongoings and 5 upcoming airdrops.

Events Calendar
Here in this section, we get information about events in crypto. Some events are very much important to know and like the one coming soon and its about finance coin burn. BNB burn is going to be one of the biggest events and it can help the token economy to grow. These events are categorized in Release, Exchange, AMA, Airdrop, Tokenomics, Fork/Swap, Partnership, Community, and Others.

There are so many events and we can also check by calendar dates and trending events are highlighted in the trending side.

3: Mobile application

Things are going mobile and we live in the era of smartphones so its very important to have smartphone applications and coinmarketcap also have their apps on android and iOS platforms. CMC app is quite easy to use and safe to use. Having a mobile app makes it easily accessible and it also has a notification function and its very useful.

There some useful features offered by CMC mobile app-

• Sync between platforms- It syncs the information between application and web platform
• Security- Security is provided with higher standards so nothing to worry about.
• Alerts- We can set and customize alerts and it notifies through alerts.
• Currency Converter - We can choose any currency we want.
• Widgets- they have widgets on android and ios both widgets are easily accessible than apps.
• Live Price Updates - Get all the price updates in real-time.
• Sort, Filter, Search - We get options to search, filter, and sort the results as per our convenience.
• Languages- Its supports multiple languages so we can choose the one we want
• Compare- We can compare cryptos in the app

4: Interest

Interest is one of the important core features in the coinmarketcap website and now since more people like to explore options of income through leading then its very useful for them.

Interest is available under the product option and it takes out to a new window.

It opens a page like this where we can see a list of coins that we can use for borrow or leading. I have selected ethereum as one of the coins it offers to earn 10.40% interest on ETH lending. There are other platforms as well and we can see the different rates of interest but I have highlighted the one that offers a high interest rate.

5: Converter

Converter feature is available under the product option. Its a calculator that allows us to cover crypto to fiat and it covers all the popular currencies worldwide.

Like in this case I can covert 1 BTC to USD and I also have an option to choose from. Some standard pairs are predefined and we have the option to chose from the list.

for experiment purpose, I have tried to convert 1 steem to INR currency and I have also saved this conversion and I can access it through the link shown below-

Task 5- This is for your self-research and studies, How or when Coinmarketcap.com decides to list a Coin? (This is for your own study and research, you can explain as per your findings but it should be in your own words and not from a direct source and provide a link for it)

CMC accepts new coin listing requests online and they have provided the option on their website.

This online request form is available at: https://support.coinmarketcap.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

They follow 3 principles to determine the listing and these 3 principles are-

• Credibility
• Verification
• Methodology

They have criteria that must meet by the coin to get the listing done on the coinmarketcap website however its does not guarantee any listing.

Some steps to follow for new coin listing -

• The application must have complete and well-structured information that will be prioritized for review.
• Must submit the application to the correct option on the form. If the wrong option is chosen then it will go to waste no action will be taken on the request.
• Consolidate all the points properly in a document before submitting the form.
• Must provide correct information and no false information should be submitted

Must requirement/guidelines for new coin listing-

• It must have a working website and block explorer
• Coin Trading must be available in at least one exchange
• Must provide a representative who can be the point of contact for any clarifications

If any project does not meet these guidelines then it might get listed as untracked listings.

Inactive Listing - Asset will get listed under this if the project is not able to provide trading and market data from at least one exchnage.

Unverified Listing - Projects where price data is provided through the automated method, but its not reviewed by coinmarketcap.

Untracked Listing - Projects that do not meet the required guidelines to track market data.

Tracked Listing - Projects that meet all the guidelines will be listed under this category.

Some House Rules that must be followed by the project-

• Only submit the online requests as this is the only channel to submit applications.
• Dont use social media and other channels and you will end up reaching to form only
• There should not be repeated requests.
• Should not try to contact the coinmarketcap team directly.
• Stay away from spamming
• They don't charge for listing so never pay money to anyone

Even after listing if the coin/project is not able to get enough trading volume or if the project is getting closed, or provided information is not correct then coinmarketcap will delist the asset.

Task 6 -This is for your self-research and studies, How or when Coinmarketcap.com decides to list Exchange? (This is for your own study and research, you can explain as per your findings but it should be in your own words and not from a direct source and provide a link for it)

As we discussed the new coin listing in CMC and now let's talk about the new exchnage listing. Most of the requirements are the same and different ones I am sharing here-

• Exchange must have a functional website with trading volume that matches its API data.
• Exchange must publish a summary of the API endpoint.
• Must be operational for at least 60 days to qualify
• Must have order book function open for the users and in the case of DEX, the case will be reviewed.
• Must allow users to trade and provide all trading options with transparency
• Must show all listed assets on the website along with the system status option.
• There must a representative from the exchange who can be contacted for any clarifications

So these are the different requirements for the listing of new exchanges in CMC.

Task 7- What is the purpose of the Uniswap feature on the Coinmarketcap.com site and how a trader can use it? (Minimum 100 words needed with the screenshot according to the mentioned information, make sure to tag yourself in your screenshot)

Swap is a new feature added by coinmarketcap and nowadays swap is quite common and we use this frequently. This is a way that allows us to convert one crypto to another and this happens so fast that it hardly takes few minutes time to perform the transaction.

Swap is available under the product option.

Once the page opens there is an option to connect the wallet and I did connect my metamask wallet. As shown on the page, I can convert ETh to USDT.

We need to select the coin and enter the amount and now need to select the swap button. It will now ask to verify the transaction and its done. Once I select confirm swap then this swap transaction will be executed but I stop here since I don't want to swap.

I have discussed about performing swap is so easy that anyone can do it easily and it does not take too long. These days ETH transaction fee is too high so before you confirm the transcation please check the fee. It supports few wallets like MetaMask, WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet, Fortmatic, and Portis and I connected only metamask because this is the only wallet that I use.

If you don't have these wallets then I suggest you install metamask from google chrome Webstore and create one wallet. Wallet creation is so easy and does not take too long. Please ensure to save the key because its a very important part and it will help you gain the access to your wallet if you forget your password or reinstall the extension.

Task 8- What is Blockchain Explorer? What Information available under Blockchain Explorer? How many Blockchain Explorer available on Coinmarketcap.com & How it helps users? If you are using any one of the Blockchain from the available list then show with the screenshot how you will use this feature? (Minimum 120 words needed with the screenshot according to the mentioned information, make sure to tag yourself in your screenshot)

Blockchain Explorer is a type of tool that we use to extract various transaction data from the blockchain. Its all open and we can track the transaction using the hash. It uses blockchain AIP and nodes to perform its function and it also uses a database from blockchain to show the data that was requested to search. Most of the such explorers show recent blocks generation data however we have the option to search using transaction details.

Currently, there are 4 coins blockchain explorer supported on the CMC and these are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Binance Coin.

With this, we can get various information. If we have a transition id or hash then its enough to get the entire information about the transaction. Please note that you can only see it but would not have any control over funds.

what Information do we get in blockchain explorer-

We can get a bunch of information using a blockchain explorer

• Hash rate
• Transaction history
• Largest transaction
• Unconfirmed transactions and it shows the confirmation as well.
• Pool/person who mined the block
• Genesis blocks
• Transactions fee

And many other bits and pieces of information can be obtained using the blockchain explorer.

So now let's go ahead check for bitcoin. I selected one random block and tried to explore the information.

Task 9- CONCLUSION. (Explain in your words that how was your overall experience and understanding of Coinmarketcap.com?)

I have been using the CMC website since the time I am in crypto from the year 2017 and I got to know about it through a google search. I spend the whole day exploring various functions and options on the website. I can say that CMC is not a new website but it has got loads of features now and while doing research I realized that its one place that is a must for every crypto person to visit. I have shared screenshots as much as possible to make things easy to understand and this Saturday entire day I spent on the task. I wanted to do it on Saturday so that I get enough time to learn and explore so that I can give my best to the task.

Now I got to know a better version of CMC that I have never done and thanks to professor @stream4u for giving me this opportunity through the lesson and it really very much helpful. Some functions like Swap, convert and explorer are such nice tools that are so good to learn. CMC learn that is also known as Alexandria is such great and I just loved it. I will be going through the topics in this later to learn more about crypto and blockchain.

It was such a great experience to learn more about CMC and it was indeed so much learning full. Once again, thanks to the amazing professor for giving this opportunity and I enjoyed this thoroughly.
