INTRODUCTION


The internet has made the world unbelievably more conducive. The level of utility offered on the internet is absolutely impressive. It has made the world a global village In this article we'd be working to explain how the future of things depends on blockchain, lets begin by explaining a few things to aid your understanding of the article given on todays lecture, these terminologies includes:

  • Internet of things (IoT)
  • Blockchain

INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)


In a broad view, Internet of Things is a new feature in the technological space comprising of advancement of technology and its attempt at aiding ones everyday tasks through things navigating through things as wide ranged as a person's every day activity. these activities includes;

  • keeping an eye out on your property through the cctv camera's connected to your phone
  • Asking your installed artificial intelligence (AI) to run a task, examples; "Siri, call mom" to your iPhone, "Alexa, play the moonlight rain ..." to your home AI
  • Controlling your television from your phone,

The Internet of Things as a technological advancement has certain advantages which makes the idea as a whole an outstanding one and just like every machine or mechanical advancement it's efficiency is not 100% and as such has certain disadvantages all of which I'll be explaining below

Advantages

  • Ease of access: The beautiful thing of the nature of the IoT is the aid in performing tasks more swiftly and at the comfort of ones personal space, hence you are able to turn on your bulb switch from your phone while still on your bed
  • Stress free and less time consuming : the internet of things is basically aimed at performing tasks for the user in order to save that users time and conserve the users energy also. etc

Disadvantages/ present challenges

The internet of things makes use of centralized system where data is transferred from the user to a centralized port and then the corresponding effect takes place. This however births the following challenges

  • lack of privacy: due to the involvement of a third party (centralized system) a users data is or course of action on any IoT device is not properly secured and private as the central system is being related the entire data transfer process the whole while.
  • lack of security: as earlier explained the centralized nature of the IoT also faces the challenge of being suceptible to being hacked as it lacks the extra layer of encryption its counterpart strives on, and therefore is always a target space for hackers as getting their hands on the pool of private information either through the data transfer or by infiltrating the central system

Overview of The Blockchain Technology


Although the mechanics of blockchain are extremely complex, the basic idea is simple: to decentralize the storage of data so that such data cannot be owned, controlled or manipulated by a central actor.

Blockchain technologies were basically created to overcome majority of the problems of the centralized system hence it was designeed with an extra layer of encryption and decryption to avert and stop hackers and invasion of privacy, as well as include other factor including ease of access, transparency etc

The future of Internet of Things in my opinion is the open adoptation of the IOT and its innovations and an increase in its rate of adoptability in every household, which could only be brought about by an increase in the efficiency of IOT innovations and with the above listed challenges facing the Internet Of Things an external innovation is needed to tackle the problems and set back of the already in-use IOT applications. this then leads to the push for the merging of the Blockchain (for its extra layer of security, privacy & its general advancement in technological integrity) and IOT applications and devices to bring user best of both worlds.

How the future of Internet Of Things(IOT) depends on blockchain


As explained earlier the future of IOT involves a noticeable increase in the rate of its adoptability in every household, and for this increase to occur the majority of challenges being faced by the IOT applications presently has to be resolved so as to increase it's efficiency hence increasing its demands and rate of adoptability also.
A solution to these challenges involves employing the blockchain technology which basically transfers encrypted data over a decentralized system thereby applying the decentralization process to further enhance the IOT in the following ways;

  • security; Blockchains store data in encrypted form so the information can only be decrypted by the intended receiver by employing a certain combination of encoded keys.
  • Data Integrity: due to an increase in the security of users data by the employment of blockchain technological the general integrity and reliability of the IOT is seen to spike.
  • lesser chances of being infiltrated at a central point as there is no central point or pool of data at a particular location as the peer to peer system would be employed and IOT devices connected to each other.
    These and many more are reasons why the future of IOT innovations depends on not just the blockchain technology but also the features offered by the blockchain technology

CONCLUSION


One thing to note is that these innovation are still in there early stages and with the speed of development and the rate of new innovations growth, with an open mind these platforms would not only come to be of optimal use but also pave way for the evolution of new ideas to the tech world in general.
