INTRODUCTION

Greetings everyone, I am delighted in taking part in this week’s lectures. One I really enjoyed is that of prof @yohan2on, I really enjoyed your class very much and happy to have taken part. This week’s lectures was actually a unique one. It was on the topic, **”Blockchain and Internet of Things”**. I really understood everything and will like to prove it by taking part in your homework task, hope you like it. Lets take a look at the questions.

1 - Explain why the future Internet of Things depends on Blockchain.

2 - Research and create content on the following IoT Blockchain use case.

In recent time, technology is really taking over the world making things easier and faster for everyone. There have been many creativity and innovations that are brought into this world. Some of these developments have been integrated into machines for both industrial and household usage.

This brings us to what we call internet of things; which I will explain as networks inter-connected to some machines or gadgets for easy lifestyle. These gadgets comes in various forms to help humans in many ways, some of them includes ATM Machines for our banking systems making it easy to make financial transactions. Meaning instead of standing in a very long queue just to withdraw money from the bank, you can just visit the ATM or Automated Machine and within a short time, your money is out for usage.

Also, we have some cars which are using special keys which can allow you open your car doors without having to press anything, all you need to do is get closer to it. In addition, you do not need to lock it with the remote keys after getting down, as you start moving away as soon as you get to a certain distance it locks automatically.
Furthermore, some companies uses technologies to ensure proper security system. They have cards encrypted with sensors for swapping on doors, which can allow certain group of individuals into a particular working space just to prevent intruders and probably theft attacks.

Now back to our question at hand;

1 - Explain why the future Internet of Things depends on Blockchain.

Before we look at how the future of the IoT depends on the blockchain, let me first elaborate and give more highlight on what the blockchain is all about. This brings us to the question, what is blockchain?;

Blockchain is a unique technology, which was developed to bring a change into the technological world. It is technology, which is meanly a number of blocks in a chain like form following one another. These blocks contains a number of transactions that are made in real time by users within the ecosystem. The blockchain store the database permanently after the blocks have been completed and then the next block is generated. Users do these transactions in a P2P (PEER-TO-PEER) manner forming a network. This network is decentralized, meaning there is no third party involvement, making it a one to one network between different users without a central authority to supervise or supersede their transactions. Instead, nodes are used in the process to manage the transactions to make sure they are secured data.

Looking at this, the blckchain is actually the future of the IoT because of it numerous advantages over the normal system. I can say the blockchain is much more advanced system than any other system adopted in the Internet of Things. Lets take a look at this advantages;

  • BLOCKCHAIN CAN NOT BE TEMPERED WITH NOR DISTROYED BY ANY INDIVIDUAL;

When it comes to blockchain technology, the use of hash codes prevents anyone from tempering with the system to make any changes or manipulate it. These codes are special and unique in nature. Unlike other technologies that is destroyed on an IoT devices one it is damaged, the blockchain nodes can be used on new devices and it will function normally. This hash codes have the capability of transferring itself onto other devices.

  • IT IS DECENTRALIZED;

The first thing that comes into mind when we talk of blockchain is decentralization. This is simply a state as which users have total control over any activity within a particular ecosystem. This implies to the blockchain technology. It is total controlled by users without any third party or central authority to supervise activates. It is totally a peer-to-peer system that gives freedom to network of computers to make any transactions among each other without any interference from a third party or what so ever. Therefore, we can say this is one of the greatest features of the blockchain.

  • BLOCKCHAIN COMES WITH VERY HIGH SPEED WHEN IN OPERATIONS;

Blockchain is one of the fastest technology in terms of transactions. It is very easy to use and making transactions on this ecosystem guarantees a quick deal. One reason for this high pace is the fact that there is no intermediaries to slow down transactions by doing all sort of human analysis or calculations and confirmation for transactions to go through. This helps increase productivity in the long run. Thereby saving time and for more to be done. In addition, the adaptations of this technology into the IoT will do more good than ever expected. This high increase use of the blockchain has improve many field and if employed into the rest of the remaining field, it will do more good than ever. Increasing

  • THERE IS PRIVACY WHEN IT COMES TO BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY;

Using the blockchain technology gives you total privacy. A user becomes so anonymous when using blockchain technology that their identities are not revealed in the process either to any third party or even within a peer-to-peer network. This makes the users feel so secured and protected from the outside world. This is made possible through the generation of private keys or phrase. This is your special tool to access your own data. Therefore, you are responsible for your own accounts security and protection. You are your own boss because no third party to keep your database and manage it for you. Therefore your private key phrases, password or keys are your

  • BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY CAN NOT BE HACKED;

Hacking a blockchain is very difficult since it is highly encrypted with codes that an not be decrypted by anyone. It is very rare to hear of a blockchain system being hacked by someone. The chains of block cannot be be hacked under any circumstances, unless the user allows third party access to his or her private or phrase, or even click on any phishing link. That does not affect the blockchain as a whole but the user or victim involved. This makes the blockchain a very strong tool when it comes to security and safety.

NB. Looking at all this advantages, the blockchain is indeed the future of the Internet of Things. And if most companies should integrate them into their the machines it will improve productivity, safety, and many.

2 - Research and create content on the following IoT Blockchain use case.

  • Filament

FILAMENT is one of the companies that has adopted Blockchain IoT in its use case. The integration of this technology was to satisfy its customers through an advance medium. This has really helped in increased productivity and customer service.
When we talk of blockchain filament, it is simply a blockchain technology integrated with an IoT Technology to securely facilitate industrial revolution of Internet of Things, making it function as distributive and interactive medium from one machine to the other. The core values of the blockchain is achieved through the ledger encrypted into the hardware and soft wares to validate the operations.
Some of the use cases of the filament IoT are THE AUTOMOBILE VEHICLES and THE FILAMENT BLOCKLET CHIP..

  • THE FILAMENT BLOCKLET CHIP.

Filament happens to be the first company to embed basic blockchain operations to be computed on its BLOCKLET CHIP directly. This allows the device to operate autonomously during periods of disconnections. This is the work of the Distributed IoT platform developed by the company. A speech from the CEO of the company Allison Clift-Jennings saying its new Blocklet Chip can perform interactions such as placing transactions in a blockchain-distributed ledger, signing transactions and receiving insertions to the ledger from other blockchain networks. He also said that if there should be a transaction of some blockcahin based currencies in the likes of bitcoin, ethereum etc , the it is possible for it to be transacted within the hardware itself directly. Unlike Bluetooth chips that allows the users to operate a device through a wireless connection, the blocklet chip gives the manufacturers a distributed ledger capacity. Where more trusted data, encryption keys and certificates can be stored for use.
The intention of this was to solve all the core-engineering problems of the company including the deployments of keys on the company’s devices. Since there is root of trust I the blockchain embed with the blocklet chip, can now do more economic, and other transactions with ease…

THE HYPERLEDGER SUPPORT was now in conjunction with the blocklet chip and the blockchain technology which is actually an open source. The company is really in support of the blockchain business framework. This is the intentions of a company that wanted to be unique and different from the rest. Making a great adaptation into the 21ST Century advanced technologies.

  • INTEGRATED INTERNET OF THINGS AUTOMOBILE VEHICLES;

With the aim of improving the safety of vehicle mobility, the FILAMENT came into a collaboration with one of the world’s best university in automobiles called the University of Nevada, they were able to develop a new standard of DATA INTERGRITY with the use of blockchain IoT between autonomous vehicles and road safety. The UNIVERSITY OF NEVAVDA CENTER FOR APPLIED RESEARCH runs the project, which is meanly to improve the safety of the vehicles. The blocklet chip initiative is also employed in this project as well which aids in the transfer of data from the vehicles and the surrounding buildings or infrastructures. LIDAR, which stands for LIGHT DETECTION AND RANGINGING, is a device situated at intersections dedicated for short-range communications. LIDAR are sensors that have the ability to create images in 360 degrees of visibility continuously. The director of the University of Nevada thought of the collaboration as a great way to create autonomous vehicle that will be a common in their towns or cities.

Although the IoT has many advantages, it also has some disadvantages, which is not an issue for some groups of people, but still for some individuals, it can prevent them from integrating them in their machines. Some of this disadvantage includes very high cost of installation of the IoT technology and the blockchain technology. It is very expensive to employ in machines. This is one reason why the need to employ very good personnel to install and if possible operate it for you is necessary.

CONCLUSION

Yes indeed, the blockchain is an inevitable thing in our technological world and I wont be surprised if it is adopted massively in most fields.
